Activities at Pentland View Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Pentland View Care Home

Anne's Retirement Party!

Residents, staff and visitors gathered to surprise our long-time staff member, Annie, as she retired after 26 years at Pentland View!

Annie was shocked and delighted by the occasion and enjoyed her boozy tea party alongside residents, guests and co-workers. It was a lovely send-off and a way for us to show her how much she has meant to us over the years.

Thurso and District Strathspey and Reel Society

Residents and visitors were surrounded by music as the Thurso and District Strathspey and Reel Society performed for us.

The group set up in various positions around the room, literally filling the room with music and surrounding attendants with lovely music. They played classic favourites that had residents dancing, toe-tapping, singing, and whistling along.

What lovely evening it was!

Residents enjoy Intergenerational visits

Pentland View has enjoyed a flurry of activity lately, as it played host to two intergenerational events in two days! The school children visited on Monday to chat with resident, Margaret Quinell, about her experiences as a child during WW2, focusing closely on her first-hand experience of evacuation and the Blitz while living in the centre of London. Margaret’s entire childhood spanned the war as she was 5 when it began and 12 when it ended.

The children listened, rapt, to Margaret’s stories, and had plenty of wonderful questions for her as well. Margaret was delighted with the attentiveness and interest of the class, and said, “They were wonderful! I feel it’s important to share what it was like so that it never happens again.”

Residents celebrate World Book Day

Staff and residents at Pentland decided to celebrate World Book Day in style yesterday, dressing up to make the most of the celebrations. They donned everything from Harry Potter costumes and mouse ears, to a Captain Underpants costume, bringing so much fun and laughter to everyone throughout the day!

Residents and visitors all enjoyed seeing the staff decked out throughout the day and everyone was saying what a fun day it was. Amidst the laughter and fun, the day was filled with bookish activities, including a trip to the library, reading our favourite stories, reminiscing about the stories the residents read to their families over the years, a literary quiz (that they did so well on!), and finally watching the live action Beauty and the Beast film.

Outings

At Babs’ request, we took a trip to the cinema to watch the new Bridget Jones Film. She and Wilma enjoyed it a great deal, with Wilma saying, “I could sit and watch it all again!”

We also had a ladies' lunch at the Park hotel, with Sandra, Isabella Kay, and Jane enjoying a lovely two-course meal and great conversation.

Valentine's Tea Dance

Residents, staff and visitors were treated to an old-fashioned tea dance in celebration of love in all of its forms.

Drinking tea and coffee from the lovely china sets that the residents shopped for themselves, and munching on tasty treats provided by the chef, everyone had a lovely time while listening to good tunes and taking photos in the photo booth! Of course, we also had a good boogie, too!
