Activities at Pentland View Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Pentland View Care Home

Mother's Day

We have some much loved mums at Pentland View, and we appreciated the gift of flowers for Mothers Day from St Peters and the Holy Rood church. Here are Anne and Isobel being spoiled by their families. Isobel was especially delighted to receive a photo of her new great grandson. Many congratulations from us all.

Families reconnect

For residents at Pentland View care home, the long awaited reunion with two family members has become a reality, as two named visitors are now allowed to visit each resident in their bedroom.  Family members must visit separately, at different times.

There has been much anticipation of this moment by families and residents alike.  Guidance was issued by the Scottish Government at the end of February and Barchester Healthcare, who run Pentland View care home, is proceeding with a safe and cautious approach to visiting. Strict protocols are in place with all visitors required to have a negative Lateral Flow Device test result before being allowed into the home, and infection control measures and social distancing in place for every visit.

Despite the need for testing and social distancing, it was still welcome news for so many residents and their family members to be able to meet in the comfort of their bedroom. Residents and their relative enjoyed getting together and catching up face to face.

Home thank local community

On behalf of our staff and residents, we'd like to say a HUGE thank you to our amazing local community for all the donations and support over the past year - it has been hugely appreciated.

Over the next few weeks we'd like to say thank you by showing you our residents enjoying some of the donations. Here they are enjoying a very generous donation from Lyth Arts Centre and friends who donated activity packs of flowers and other art materials for every single resident. This was especially appreciated by our resident Ann Mcleod, who went to the primary school in Lyth which was later turned into Lyth Arts Centre, then she worked there for many years before serving on the committee. She still has a beautiful singing voice which we love hearing around the home

Divisional Dementia Care Champion

Congratulations to Rebecca Sutherland, who has been named as a Divisional Winner in the 2020 Barchester Care Awards. Rebecca is a finalist in the Dementia Care Champion category and has been invited to attend a virtual awards ceremony on 8th October, where she will find out if she has won overall.

Resident Recognised for Community Service

Don, Resident at Pentland View recently went  out collecting for the Poppy Appeal at the homes local Tesco’s. Don joined the RAF volunteer reserve when he was 17 having enjoyed an interest in flying from a very early age and with a fascination of how things could stay in the air. Don was called up for service on September 10th 1939 and qualified as a pilot in 1940.

He served in the 235 Squadron, the 57 Squadron and the 7 Squadron where the first 4 engine heavy bomber, the Short Stirling flew from.  He spent 8-months in hospital after being wounded in 1941 before he returned as a navigator to Bomber Command.  Don was demobilised on September 17th 1946 and was recently awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the community.

Pentland Shoebox

Pentland View has been a hive of activity over the past few weeks, as staff, residents, families and friends have been getting involved in the Blythswood Christmas Showbox Appeal. The boxes are filled with useful gifts, such as toiletries, toys, sweets, stationary and small items of clothing and given to children and adults in need in countries such as Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and the Ukraine. These gifts make a high difference to the lives of people who would otherwise not receive any gifts at Christmas.

Morag Lindsay, General Manager, said: “We wanted to share the true Christmas spirit and help people and put a smile on their face this Christmas. Residents loved decorating the old shoeboxes, and I would like to say thank you to everyone who supported us with donations large and small!”
