Activities at Mallard Court Care Home

We provide a wide range of group activities and individual one to one activities to meet our residents needs including musical entertainers, PAT dog visits, minibus outings, themed events and much more!

We take a person centred approach when planning each individuals activities so they can achieve a feeling of self worth and well-being.

We hold monthly meetings with the residents and also regular meetings with their family and friends, discussing any ideas that they may have, and also any problems that their may have. Both of our activities coordinators, Steve and Lynne, have completed NAPA Activity Workers Level 2 Award training, and are continually seeking new ideas so we can ensure life in the home is as varied and interesting as possible. We encourage strong community links with the local schools, colleges and local charities in the community. Steve is supported also by his dogs, Tia, Pebbles and Oscar who give great pleasure to the residents in our home, and can often be seen either on a persons lap or being taken for a walk around the home. Many of the visitors that come into Mallard Court commented that it is so friendly and welcoming.

Steve Moss

Lifestyle Coordinator

Hi, my name is Steve, and I have been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Mallard Court since 2006, and have achieved the NAPA (National Association of Activity Providers) Level 2 Award in Activity Provision in the Care Sector.

We provide a wide range of activities for the people we support, as well as for their families and friends. I also love to have one-to-one chats with residents who like to reminisce about their lives over a cup of tea and some biscuits.

We have our own minibus and have fun days out sight-seeing, having a picnic or going a local pub for a drink and a meal. We also arrange for local artists to provide musical entertainment for everyone at Mallard Court.

World Bee Day

Residents and staff had a fantastic day here at Mallard Court celebrating World Bee Day together, on what was a lovely day all round.

Together we created a Bee friendly area in our garden and within a day or two Honey Bees made it their home!

Bees are such an important part of nature, and we can all do our bit to help Bees in our gardens.

Historic Hendon

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

Story telling with Jon Sleigh

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.

Happy 102nd Birthday Violet!

Here at Mallard Court our lovely resident Violet celebrated her 102nd birthday with family, friends and staff.

Violet was born in the village of Kelk in 1921 and recalls living in Cowlam and walking all the way to Rudston school! She served in the Royal Artillery and remembers plotting the position of aeroplanes on maps as one of her many duties.

Violet married husband Laurence and they lived on a farm at Low Caythorpe where he worked, violet worked as a bus conductress on the East Yorkshire service Driffield to Scarborough route for over 25years.

Violet comments her secret to long life is; “healthy living with plenty of exercise!”

Violet said she loved her job and met a lot of lovely people over the years.

Violet had some fabulous presents, beautiful flowers and birthday cards, she proudly showed us a very special card made by her Great-great-grandson Finlay.

International Nurses Day

It was International Nurses Day on the 12th of May and here at mallard Court we celebrated in style, creating beautiful display to thank all of our kind and dedicated nurses. We gave them a special “Thankyou Certificate” for their hard work and commitment.

Our residents and staff had fun colouring in flowers for the display to thank them all.

There was a delicious variety of cupcakes, sweet treats and some beautiful flowers too!

King Charles III Coronation celebrations

Excitement was in the air at Mallard Court in Bridlington where residents and staff have been busy making Coronation-themed decorations and eye-catching displays to celebrate the King’s Coronation on Saturday May 6th.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a King. Over the bank holiday weekend the home held various Royal party games including Pin the Crown on the Kings Head, Royal Bingo sessions, planting Wildflower seeds as a reminder of this special occasion and a Coronation-themed quiz.
