Activities at Lawton Rise Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Kate Franks

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kate Franks and I have returned to Lawton Rise August 2023 to work as an Activities Coordinator.  I started my career working as a Legal Secretary in the Conveyancing department before leaving to commence employment with the Health Authority as a Medical Secretary.

After having my two children I retrained to work as a Teaching Assistant in a Primary School for ten years and studied for a Higher Level Teaching Assistance qualification enabling to progress my career.

Due to illness within my family I needed to focus on a role closer to home but I am delighted to be able to return to the home and it feels like I have never been away. The staff and residents are so welcoming and helpful and I am really pleased that I have returned.

Life at Lawton Rise Care Home

A fond farewell

Today we say a fond farewell to our nurse Anju, as she prepares to venture into motherhood for the second time. Anju will be missed by all the team at Lawton Rise. We wish Anju all the best and look forward to meeting our new recruit.

Back in the box for Ralph

After being caught by the super senior, the Lawton rise staff have made sure that Ralph is boxed and ready to post. The box does state one way, but I’m sure Ralph will be back! Ralph is on her way Santa. We would like to thank everyone e who has liked and commented on Ralph’s antics.

Merry Christmas to all the residents, relatives, friends and staff at Lawton rise. Thanks for the support throughout the year.

Tripping the light fantastic!

Lighting up time got a whole new meaning at Lawton Rise as the community came together to see the home’s Christmas lights switched on for the very first time this Christmas.

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Lawton Rise care home, in Golden Hill, Stoke on Trent, got in the Christmas spirit by inviting the community to come and join in with staff and residents who all gathered in the home’s garden for the occasion.

There was mulled wine, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows along with lots of other Christmas treats all prepared by Second chef, Kelly Deery to keep everyone warm.  The Christmas tree and all the lights looked amazing when the home’s Acting General Manager, Clare Dudley, flicked the switch for the big reveal.

Elf strikes again!

Well Ralph has tried to steal the presents yesterday, and even tried a disguise, but nothing gets past us!!!, however, Ralph was rumbled in her tracks and we managed to save the presents for the light switch on.

Ralph is so mischievous and always thinking of ways to cause trouble.  We will not let Ralph win, everyday we are on the look out.

Virtual trip to the Donkey Sanctuary

Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester.  Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care.  They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
