Activities at Kings Park Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Hello, I am Angela the Activities Lead.
I am delighted to be part of the team at Kings Park after a transferring from a sister home in Salisbury, following my relocation to this area.
With experience in this role, my passion is bringing joy to our residents, whether on a one-to-one basis or in groups. I love getting to know each resident and incorporating their interests into engaging, meaningful activities and events that nurture the mind, body and spirit to enhance their well-being and life enrichment at our home. Making people smile is what I do best!
During lockdown, I ran daily Zoom sessions for well-being, including bingo and quizzes. When my children were young I volunteered as a helper at Boys Brigade and St John's Ambulance which was very rewarding. I love being a Grandma, music, crafts, the outdoors and animals - I have just started a new hobby of wild swimming with friends.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Armistice
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month - Kings Park remembered the fallen...
Over the road at the Royal British Legion Club Ferndown, one of our residents, Eric, kindly volunteered to lay a poppy wreath at the memorial from all of the residents & staff here at Kings Park.
Thank you Eric for being our home's ambassador at this event - You have done us all proud!
We also want to thank the wonderful children from Ferndown First School, who have coloured some wonderful pictures for our residents to remember the fallen. What a beautiful display it has made and the residents really appreciate all your efforts.
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
Helping with Research...
We were recently contact by the lovely Chloe, who is a researcher for Leeds Beckett University...
Chloe is looking at how care homes can benefit from engaging with you children in their environments and the difference this can make, especially with regards to anyone living with dementia.
For some time now we have been hosting, with great success, our Kings Kids mother a baby group here in our home and so Chloe decided to come along and learn more about the effects this has on our residents.
Barchester Healthcare already work closely with Leeds Beckett University who help with their dementia training for all our staff, so we were delighted when Chloe approached us for her research.
Living in Wimborne, this is the perfect location for Chloe to see what we get up to and we will be working with Chloe in future to help her further.
Our residents really look forward to these sessions spent with the little ones and this interaction really gives them a sense of purpose and always brings plenty of smiles - Long may these sessions continue!
The Reading Buddies are Back Again
Our very favourite Reading Buddies from over at Ferndown First School were back in action at Kings Park recently...
A small group of twelve or so children from across the road came along to see our residents and were paired up for a little bit of reading.
Our foyer was alive with chatter and giggles as everyone read to their buddies so well.
Shy and timid on the way in, but brimming with self-esteem and confidence on the way out!
Our residents really love these sessions and feel like they have a real sense of purpose in their day. Especially one of our residents who used to be an infant school teacher, who said: 'Well that has taken me back...'

November Butterflies!
Our residents were recently chatting about the warm and sunny weather in the Kings Park gardens...
They were particularly fascinated at the incredible number of butterflies and bees hovering over our buddleia bush... In NOVEMBER!!!!

Charity Goals!
Earlier on in the year you may have seen on Facebook all about Eric's EPIC Walk, where we challenged everyone to get out and about, walking a mile each to improve mental health and donate to our cause in order to raise money for two incredibly deserving charities...
Julia's House Children's Hospice & Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, who both do incredible work in our community.
So this week we welcomed the lovely Amanda Gillett (Julia's House) & Ruth Wright (Lewis Manning Hospice Care), as well as Eric's amazing cheerleader, and local Mayor of Ferndown, Krissy Stamp (@Ferndown Town Council), to come along to the home for our formal cheque presentation.
Our goal was to raise £1000 to split between both charities, and we can now announce that Eric and our incredible residents have raised a wonderful....

We are so proud of everyone's efforts and donations to get to our goal and we would also like to give a BIG shout out to the students from Ferndown First School who raised a large part of this money!

Nick Sellers Performs
We recently welcomed the fabulous Nick Sellers into our home to come and spread some musical joy amongst our residents...
Nick sang as our residents gathered up on our Memory Lane floor, much to everyone's delight.
There were many songs from yesteryear, which residents sang and clapped along to, but some of the, couldn't keep their dancing feet still, getting up for a spin on our make-shift dance floor.
Eric and Mary were quick to show everyone a few moves as to how it's done!
Thank you, Nick, for another wonderful afternoon of music, fun and reminiscence!
