Activities at Edingley Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

National Carers Week

Residents are celebrating National Carers’ Week, which takes place from June 5-11. Residents wanted to thank all the wonderful staff at the home, whose hard work and dedication make a real difference to the lives of those living in their care.

Staff were treated to party; afternoon tea in the garden with live music. Head chef had put together a wonderful spread of party food for everyone to enjoy. Family and friends arrived throughout the afternoon to join in the fun with staff and residents.

Residents also gave thanks by giving handmade cards and handwritten letters to carers with a small gift of thanks for all that they do.

Baking Session at Edingley Lodge

Today the Residents at Edingley Lodge had a good time in making some fruit scones. They enjoyed mixing all the ingredients together have a chat and a laugh with each other.

The Scones was cook we had to wait for it to cool down. One of our residents said that it brings back memories of when she used to bake at home and how she really enjoyed baking.

We plan to do a baking session every other week. We would also like to welcome family friends and the community to come in and bake with us. We would like to see what other people make and try what people have made.

Senior Health and Fitness Day

Senior Health and Fitness Day which took place on May 31st  Residents participated in a variety of activities throughout the day designed for a wide range of physical abilities, including walking, yoga, armchair exercises. Residents also joined in making fresh fruit smoothies with our Head Chef.

Created to inspire senior-friendly physical activity, the national day was launched to increase awareness of the importance of remaining active to maintain strong, healthy joints and muscles, and to encourage diet and lifestyle changes for an overall improvement to wellbeing, and illness prevention.

National Fish & Chip Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Edingley Lodge care home in Edingley, Newark had a fantastic time celebrating National Fish & Chip Day on Friday 2nd June, surely one of the best days of the year. The Head chef Paul McCormack whipped up a selection of different flavoured batters for residents to try along with some home-made tartare sauce and mushy peas, everyone had a great time guessing the different batter ingredients.  The sun was shining so residents took to the garden to eat their fish and chips in paper cones with wooden forks in time-honoured tradition. Our residents June Wilkinson enjoyed in making some Fish and chips with our head Chef.

Story telling with Jon Sleigh

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.
