Activities at Bryn Ivor Lodge Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Sophia Reed
Hi, I'm Sophia, the Activities Coordinator at Bryn Ivor Lodge. My top priority is making sure our residents feel happy and cosy in their homes. I'm a super crafty person and love coming up with new and exciting activities for everyone to enjoy. When I'm not busy planning, you can usually spot me outside tending to the garden - especially when the sun is shining!
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Bryn Ivor Lodge Care Home

Pet Therapy
Pet therapy is proven to have a healing effect at people living with dementia. It lowers symptoms of depression and sadness and supports good mental health. Our Residents are visited regularly by various animals, but on this occasion we had a real guinea pig bonanza! A family of 4 guinea pigs visited our Nursing Memory Lane, we couldn’t get enough of cuddles!

Baking Club
The Great British Bake Off has nothing on us! We have some fantastic bakers in Bryn Ivor Lodge too! Our weekly Baking Club is producing delicious treats for everyone. It is important for our Residents to continue their hobbies and we support them in that every single day. The only disadvantage of that- our waistlines getting bigger!

Enjoying Talks
Here in Bryn Ivor Lodge our Residents enjoy a good talk. Throughout the month we invite several different speakers to keep our minds busy. We always learn new things, no matter the age! Recently we invited Gavin Jones, Community Engagement Officer from Newport County Council to give us a talk about history of Newport Transporter Bridge.
We were also visited by representatives of Menter Iaith Casnewydd- Newport Language Initiative to spend time with our Welsh speaking Residents. It was a joy to listen to them converse for over an hour in their native language! Diolch!

Salvation Army Choir
On Sunday the Salvation Army Choir came to perform for us in the garden. Residents loved sitting in the sun with wine, Pimms and beer along with cake and ice-cream whilst listening to the choir. Their talented singers songs of faith and love were uplifting and brought a smile to everyone!.
Our life enrichment programme contains a range of musical activities and events including garden concerts, theatre trips and singers. Call us to find out more about life at Bryn Ivor.

Farmyard Therapy
Yesterday our Activities Team took several residents to visit a local farm for some animal therapy. We got to feed several farm animals and even managed to catch a chicken or two before making some purchases in the farm shop. The trip brought back a lot of memories from school trips and early careers.
Animal therapy builds on the human-animal bond. Interacting with a friendly pet or other animal can help many physical and mental issues. It can help reduce blood pressure and improve overall cardiovascular health. It can also release endorphins that produce a calming effect.

Celtic Springs
Today started with a trip to Celtic Springs. Residents sat in the shade, enjoyed the lovely breeze off the lake before feeding the ducks and fish in such a peaceful spot which is a haven for local wildlife. We took a long walk around the lake before heading home.
Our minibus is in near constant use as we are always looking for new places to explore.
