Activities at Bere Grove Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Hollie Wren

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I'm Hollie. I have worked in healthcare for six years taking on a variety of roles. I am so proud to be heading up the activity team and supporting our residents with a life-enriching programme of events. I am highly motivated and love sharing my creative and imaginative side with everyone. I truly believe age is just a number and there is nothing we cannot achieve if we work together.

I like to create a person-centred activity programme so each resident gets the opportunity to enjoy what they love. This is their time to relax, enjoy and have fun.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Birthday Celebration's

We have been wishing a Happy Birthday to our wonderful resident Sylvia.Birthday's are a time when family, friends and fellow residents can come together. It is fun for all involved, including the staff and visitors. No matter what the special occasion or celebration is, it will have one thing in common and that will be good company and a great cake! On this occasion, we were privileged to have Barchester's Lead Quality Improvement Regulations Manager, Vicky Coughlan join us in celebrating a resident's birthday during her visit to the home.

Did someone say pub?

On residents request, we had a ladies lunch out to our local pub! We enjoyed a scrummy meal with a cheeky gin and tonic.Dawn said “Thank you for a lovely afternoon, it was nice to all have lunch together.. today was the most fun I’ve had in a while!”Here at Bere Grove, we let our residents decide on where they would like to go on our weekly minibus outing adventures! I wonder where we’ll go next!

A trip to the D-Day Museum

Our residents enjoyed their minibus trip out and about to The Portsmouth D-Day Museum Trust  We had a fun-filled day exploring the museum and its new exhibition 'The Lucky Ones Grow Old' with stunning portraits featuring Normandy veterans and the personal stories behind them. Our residents had a great time and we all agreed that a visit to a museum is a search for beauty, truth and meaning in our lives. We finished the day with a luxury hot chocolate and biscuits in their café, a great time was had by all!

Ladies that Latte

Who doesn’t enjoy time with friends, playing scrabble with a fresh cream latte and some homemade cake. These ladies can get quite competitive, but always fill the home with their fun and laughter.

Men's Club

Bere Grove's Men's club in full swing. Our gentlemen love nothing more than tinkering with old parts, fixing things that are broken and chatting over old times. When a model railway was donated they couldn't wait to get involved and help get it set up and working again. Now they play.

Getting Ready For Christmas

We have been putting up the decorations and today we sat down to a wonderful poetry class which brought even more Christmas spirit! Residents came together to make our Christmas poem 2024:

Its Christmas time at Bere Grove, the residents are ready. Stockings on the door, the flow of mince pies steady. The turkey is in the oven, or maybe a nut roast. The bubbly is in the fridge, the cards are in the post. The Christmas tree is sparkling, the fairy is on the top. Christmas lights shimmer, and Rudolph will soon stop. Santa’s got the presents, for this festive time on earth. So let us celebrate this Christmas, the Christ child’s birth.
