Activities at Balclutha Court Care Home

At Balclutha Court our resident’s happiness is extremely important to us. We all know that a large part of this is keeping active and continuing to enjoy your interests and hobbies. At Balclutha Court, we have regular activities including arts and crafts, music, entertainment, trips to local attractions such as canal trips, safari parks and many more. Our activities team are always busy organising events, entertainment and excursions with the broadest possible appeal and many of our residents see living at Balclutha Court as an opportunity to develop a new skill or interest. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at Balclutha Court Care Home

National Ice Cream Day

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event in celebration on National Ice Cream Day. Wall’s team took us on a great journey through history, sharing fascinating details about the brand since its launch in 1922. We learned about major innovations such as the introduction of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister, and Carte d'Or.

Residents were treated to a sing-along to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best-of-all, an ice-cream tasting session. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our ice-cream lovers.

Alice day

We celebrated Alice day with a Mad Hatters “Tea Party”. We enjoyed some fabulous Alice in wonderland themed treats created by our brilliant kitchen team. We sang, danced, ate, drank and tested our knowledge of the age old Lewis Caroll tale. Great day enjoyed by all involved.

Sensory sessions

Here at Balclutha Court we like to make the most of our sensory room. This special place combines a range of stimuli to help our residents develop and engage with their senses. The happiness and calm this room brings to some of our residents is just fabulous.

Community Summer Ball

We like to get together with our local care homes and day care regularly to keep in touch and  have fun. This month we arranged a summer ball at one of our local church halls which was so much fun. We got into the spirit of summer by decorating the hall, dressing up, playing summer themed games and having a sing along. Our kitchen provided us with a picnic style spread and not a crumb was left. What a fantastic day it was.

Dogs Trust

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.

Alpaca Visit

We do love animals here at Balclutha and are never happier than when they come to visit. We were over the moon to have a visit from 2 beautiful alpacas this month, this was a first time for most of us and we were not disappointed.  It was a great experience being able to feed and pet them and these memories will last for a long time to come.
