What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"Overall, I am delighted with the care given to my brother-in-law. All staff, including the management, administration and reception staff, are very willing to help, action and support any requests made."

"It is always a pleasure to visit Barchester Balclutha Court Care Home. I visit 22 people from our church going once a week doing the top and bottom floors alternate weeks. Due to fewer to visit on the top floor, I usually manage a few on the bottom floor every week. The staff are very helpful and welcoming and the people I visit are very happy with their care. I have got to know some relatives too as I do my rounds."

"Balclutha has taken my sister at a critical time. She was discharged from the hospital with several issues, including Parkinson's as well as cognitive dysfunction. You have stabilised these issues and helped her through the loss of ability to stand and the related loss of independence issues and difficulties as her world shrank. She has responded to being treated with respect whilst being aware of the realities and limitations of her condition. Thank you."

"My mother was recently in respite at Barchester Balclutha Court Care Home in Greenock. The overall experience was excellent, from a warm welcome at reception through to every member of staff I encountered being friendly and attentive to my mother. The rooms are spotlessly clean, the food looked very good and activities were available for my mother. Medication was handled professionally and promptly, my mother felt safe within the home and only had praise for all the staff, including management. Should we require respite in the future, Balclutha will be not only ours but my mother’s preferred option. Well done to the manager and all the staff at Balclutha."

"I feel most thankful for the care provided. I only have a few "quibbles" which might be considered. why does perfection matter if we lose human contact as a result? Can staff be allowed to get on with what they're doing without interference? They manage better when pairs are required! We would enjoy our meals more if there wasn't pressure to get finished. Let us recognise that we all have value - staff and residents alike."

"I cannot recommend the home enough in terms of how it’s run and the care that is provided to the residents; the staff are super friendly and really care about their residents. The activities that they organise are fantastic. Our uncle was well looked after, and the staff took the time to get to know him and what his passions were. The only downside is the rooms don’t have en-suites compared to some of the more modern homes, but the home itself is spotless. This is the second time we’ve had a relative in the home, and I would recommend it to anyone thinking about it."

"We are grateful for the opportunity to be accepted here. We did not need to compare it for value. Most of the workers are experienced: it is only one or two who still have to learn. We get out of doors with the wheelchair and use the exercise pedals indoors. Our room is very much our own with a second bed if I need it myself. We have good meals with a choice of main course and help with eating (my wife suffers from Parkinson's). We are aware of the activity programme if we want to use it."

"I am delighted and relieved that my stepfather has settled in Balclutha Court and chose himself not to return home as he wasn't coping with his health issues. He feels happy and secure knowing the staff are always there for support, his health has improved since going there in May 2023. Also, he is enjoying the company of other residents which has enabled him to have a better quality of life with purpose, enjoying the activities and outings. He is so comfortable in his surroundings with a few of his own items from home and new which has helped him settle. I am very grateful to the home manager who accessed him before admission observed him and listened to what he wanted, I feel all of the staff are very professional, friendly, and approachable it's definitely a person-centred home from my experience which my star ratings reflect."

"I came to stay at Balclutha Court Care Home in January 2023 - since then I have come to really love staying here. the activities are really good - you get such a good laugh and the company is great. I have made new friends not only with the residents but with the staff too. They really include me with everything going on. I feel like I have been welcomed into a nice big new family here. My own family come and visit me, they can pop in whenever they like, it's brilliant. I have a lovely room with all my personal bits in it and a locker where I can keep things safe. I even have a fridge my brother brought in for me for my juices and snacks. The food is lovely - especially the steak pies and sausage casseroles. The kitchen staff are really attentive and look after me making sure I get something to eat that I like. I'd like to leave a special comment on the girls that help look after me - they are wonderful and I have struck up a few nice relationships with them, they helped me settle in well."

"Balclutha Court Care Home is absolutely lovely! From the very first day I went to view the home for my mum I just knew this was the place, the atmosphere as soon as you walk through the doors is so welcoming and friendly, and the staff go above and beyond in their duties with all residents. They give the best care and support to my mum 24/7 and meet her everyday needs. My mum became a resident at the end of March and the turnaround in my mum's eating, communication, interaction and walking is phenomenal, to say the least. Balclutha Care Home is always clean and tidy and every time I have visited the maintenance men/staff are always on the go which is a nice sight to see. Residents always seem very happy and content and enjoying activities and the company of each other, my mum has even gotten used to going to the dining room for her meals now whereas before she wouldn't even eat and joins in with activities. "I couldn't have picked a better care home for my mum to stay"."

"Mum has now been in Balclutha Court Care Home for about six months and she has settled in well. The staff are great and always say to call them any time if we have any worries or want to speak with Mum. Everyone is so nice and they go out of their way to help. The food is delicious and there is lots of it! The activities ladies are great and we like seeing the pictures they post on social media. This really helps to know that Mum is safe and being looked after as we do not live locally and we can see what the residents are getting up to!"

"I moved my mum up from England to Balclutha Court in October last year so she could be closer to me as I stay local to the home. The whole team at Balclutha have been excellent and with their great help and knowledge, mums move went flawlessly. My mum loves the home and her room and has settled in very nicely. She enjoys the entertainment provided and also the tea/cake trolley that seems to never stop coming around. All the staff that I have come into contact with are friendly and always have a smile on their face and a hello for you when you go into visit. Mum is always saying that she likes the staff and is always laughing and having a joke with them. Any questions I have raised have been welcomed and answered quickly. Overall I am very impressed with Balclutha who has welcomed and settled my mum into a friendly, caring and safe environment where she loves being. This in turn has made my whole family happy knowing that she is in a safe place and being well looked after."

"Balclutha Court, I have great respect for the management and all the staff that work there. I am a regular visitor and I love the warm welcome I get from everyone that works there, they are compassionate and kind, not only to residents but to us that visit too. Always offered tea or coffee when residents get one and sometimes you could be doing with tea when I am there, so thank you. The staff are very helpful whether you are making a payment, or asking any questions you might have regarding your loved one or about Balclutha in general. The nursing staff are very good at informing you about any falls or any questions you might have and it's taken care of immediately, so your loved one's health comes first. The activities director and team are top-notch in all the activities they do with the residents, my stepfather just loves going there. He has a better life and has come on so well with having company and has made so many wonderful gifts for us, at the Activities. Balclutha care home are excellent."

"My mum is a resident at Balclutha and I have written a review before detailing the excellent care she is given. I would like to reiterate this in view of the incident that was published in the local paper. I feel deeply sad for the hard working and compassionate staff who work tirelessly to look after the residents. This incident is not a reflection on Balclutha the staff or management and our family are all in support of you all and continue to be grateful for the hard work you all do. Thank you for taking such good care of our mum and all the residents at Balclutha. It's a fantastic care home with fantastic staff and we hope this incident does not effect you all for too long."

"My father-in-law has been resident in Balclutha Court for almost three years now. During this time, the care and compassion shown by nursing and management staff has been exceptional. I would have no hesitancy in recommending Balclutha Court to anyone who is looking for the best standard of care for their loved one."

"All phone calls to the home are dealt with efficiently. Staff are very friendly at all visits. Can visibly see staff going out of their way to care for the residents. An active and varied entertainment programme. Residents fed well and often, and drinks for hydration are always on hand to the residents. Staff have made an obvious effort to get to know my mum in supporting her care. Welcoming reception area on entry to the home."

"My dad is a temporary resident, awaiting a homecare package. From his initial day until now he has been made to feel very welcome. He wasn't impressed, to begin with as he was confined to his room because of various covid restrictions. However, now he is free to wander around and sit outside he is much more settled. All staff are very friendly and helpful and concerns are dealt with quickly. He is very impressed with the overall standard of meals. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Overall everyone is doing a great job during quite difficult circumstances. If he wanted to stay I would be quite happy, but he is desperate to get back to his own house."

"After much deliberation and heartache, we as a family had to come to the decision to put mum into care. She initially went into Balclutha for respite however it became evident my dad wouldn’t be able to cope at home as my mum was not getting any better. Although this was a difficult decision the staff at Balclutha have been next to none. They are all so welcoming and nothing is a problem for them. The nursing staff, activities staff, care assistants and the receptionist are all lovely caring people. The thing that resonates with me the most is when my dad was apologising for going every day and was told, this is your wife’s home now and you are always welcome here. Probably the hardest but the best decision we have made as my mum is well cared for well-fed and is settling in well. She went in a distressed and fragile lady and is now happy and content even gaining weight thanks to the lovely home-cooked food. We as a family are very grateful. Thank you, Balclutha."

"In February 2020, and with some trepidation, we accepted that my mum needed residential care. We visited a number of care facilities in the area, but knew instantly that Balclutha Court was head and shoulders above the rest. The empathy, warmth and care shown to my mum (and to us during the process) was without parallel. We will be forever grateful for that. Sadly my mum passed away in December. Every aspect of the care, management, information exchange and dignity shown to my mum, and to our family, was exceptional. The staff are great, they operate as a team… A sign of strong leadership… and they clearly have the care of their wards as their principal focus. COVID added an extra level of complexity to their job, balancing the safety of their residents with the needs of the families must have been a challenge, but the team cheerfully got on with the task in hand. I would not hesitate to recommend these lovely people to anybody facing similar tough decisions on behalf of a loved one."

"My mum has recently moved to Balclutha Court from another care home in Inverclyde. She has settled so well and the staff have just been amazing with her, especially two members of staff. Mum enjoys a bit of a laugh and joke and the staff have picked up on this. They are also so respectful of her wishes in relation to what activities she participates in (or doesn’t!). A fabulous team."

"As a family, we sadly had to place mum in a care facility, due to her deteriorating Dementia. As a result, we researched our local care homes and visited a number of homes during that process. On visiting Balclutha for the first time, our first impressions and the information we received was first class, and a hard decision was made a lot easier. Since mum has been a resident, I can see how much happier she is, due to the care she is receiving, she has become more interactive with the family and her physical mobility has got better. I believe this is due, to her now receiving supervised meal times and the ability to walk around the home as opposed to lying in bed all day. All my interactions with the staff at all levels from day one have been first class, the home environment is really welcoming and mums room is of a really good standard. Any requests made have been acted on immediately, so myself and the family feel we are both involved and consulted on mums everyday care."

"My father came to the home at very short notice and we’ve been really impressed and grateful for how comfortable the staff have made him. Everyone we’ve come into contact with at the home has impressed us with their friendliness and professionalism. It is clear that they truly do care about the well-being of the residents. The rooms are clean and comfortable, as are the common areas. We know he is safe and being well looked after."

"I have previous experience of a family member being in a care home, and the staff at Barchester Balclutha Court Care Home are much better. They are caring, attentive and friendly. Management and staff keep us informed and included. It's the staff that make Balclutha such a good care home, they are excellent. My only criticism is the standard of the rooms (broken drawers in my father in laws room) but they are kept spotlessly clean."

"My mum is given the best of care at Balclutha Court Care Home where the carers are friendly and very patient. My mum was diagnosed with Dementia which made living at my home difficult. "My wife has been cared for for nearly two years in Barchester Balclutha Court following a stroke. She has been very well looked after during this time by very caring staff who are also only too happy to assist the resident and family members in any way. It is very important to the relative if they can leave their loved one in the hands of kind, caring staff in the knowledge that they will be well looked after twenty-four hours a day. You can tell that the staff have a good connection with your relative with the big smile my wife gives to the carers when they visit the room. And the big smile the carers give to my wife. The staff nurses are also always prompt in informing the relative of any medical issues and further actions taken."

"This last year has been difficult for us all. All of the staff at Balclutha have been amazing in trying to get us back together as quickly and safely as possible. I know papa loves all the staff and has been cared for so well in the time that I have not been able to be with him. Everyone that works in the home across the board goes above and beyond to make sure that all the residents get 10/10 care and support. I can never thank you guys enough for everything that you have done through this last year to try and make it easier, from video calls to installing a window room so we can be one step closer to our family. Everything you all do is from the heart and I can’t put into words how grateful I am."

"My mother-in-law is very well cared for and has become extremely fond of all the staff who look after her. Whenever I visit, she is clean, tidy and looks well cared for. Since admission to Barchester Balclutha Court, she has gained the weight she had previously lost. She takes part in many of the activities and always looks very engaged and happy in the photos I see of her enjoying these activities. We are completely happy/satisfied with the care and attention my mother-in-law receives, and I would have no hesitation in recommending Balclutha care home to anyone."

"Due to my mother need for 24-hour care, I took the hard decision to request her admittance to social care. In regards to selecting a care home, there was only (1) Balclutha Court. The staff are fantastic and had cared for my mother-in-law for five years prior to her passing. Their levels of compassion, kindness, attention to detail, fun and love are a credit to this company."

"Where do I start, it finally came time for my dad, my hero, to be looked after professionally and so the search began to find that one place that safe haven for my dad, I searched and searched and kept coming back to Balclutha Court and I'm glad I did, the day I had to leave my dad in their care I was left broken, as my hero was no longer with me every day. But I had to do it due to him having Alzheimer's and by this point really bad. I never thought I would get over it, fast forward a few weeks and it's as if he's always been a resident there he's settled in great he wants for nothing they're there for him 24 hrs a day, he's safe and really well looked after. I should never ever have doubted their capabilities. Nothing is an inconvenience to them they went above and beyond for my wee dad and me, as a result, we are both sleeping at night my dad is safe and I am healing slowly. They not only care for the residents they help the families too. I would highly recommend this Care Home."

"Visiting has returned to Balclutha Court and I was lucky enough to book a visit to see my Dad today. The manager and her team have excelled in creating a wonderful visiting "pod" where residents can see and speak to their relatives in warmth and comfort. An intercom system allows the conversation to flow easily and a large screen means residents can get much closer to their relatives, with the knowledge that they are both safe and that all Covid restrictions are being adhered to. Booking online is a quick and easy process and I am already looking forward to my visit next week. Having just returned from my visit, I wanted to thank the manager and all her staff for supplying such a safe and comfortable visiting space. The Balclutha team always does a wonderful job, but over the last extremely difficult year, they have excelled beyond expectations. We feel so lucky that Dad is one of the "Balclutha boys" and we are indebted to the staff for their skill, kindness and support. Thank you all so much."

"I am from Ireland so don't visit as often as I should. Unfortunately had to visit home due to my aunt passing. I was very regularly in contact with my aunt and the staff and always found the staff to be most helpful and very courteous and nothing was a problem. The home is very nice and comfortable. Plenty of staff. Spoke to many of the residents who seemed to be very happy and content. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home. "As Power of Attorney for my aunt, the time came when she needed further care. After recommendations from friends, I decided on Balclutha Court. I am delighted with the decision I have made. Although my aunt has dementia and had become withdrawn, within a short time in the care home I could see the difference in her. She is encouraged to join in with all the activities, the staff on duty spend time talking to her and she has become more animated. Apart from her illness, she is nearly back to the aunt I knew and I know that this is due to the care and attention given to her in Balclutha Court. On a personal level, I have never had to deal with care homes in the past, but the staff have been extremely helpful and patient with me, answering all my questions and giving me assistance with the paperwork. I would never hesitate to recommend Balclutha Court to anyone looking for a care home for their elderly relatives."

"I just want to say a big well done to the manager and all her staff for the fantastic Hawaiian themed day on Friday 28th June that was organised for all the residents and their family and friends. It was great to see young and old all having a great time together. The continuous ongoing activities must have taken a lot of planning and seemed to be enjoyed by everyone. The bbq was a big hit and the food was delicious. Well done to all the catering team. There was something for everyone and plenty of it. It was also great to see staff who weren't on duty take time out on their precious days off to come in and join in the fun too. And of course, organising Mr Sunshine to be there too was great! "I would just like to say a huge thank you to the manager and her team for the help and support they gave to me when my friend passed away. I was totally blown away when she offered to lay on a funeral tea for my friend. She was 91 years old when she died, she had no relatives and most of her friends had already passed away or were too infirm or too far away to attend the funeral. As such, there was only a small number of us at the service including some of the staff who kindly took the time to attend. We came to back to Balclutha Court and the spread that had been put on was outstanding. Not only was there a huge variety of food but the standard was exceptional and we all very much appreciated all the effort that had gone into producing this. Alison went above and beyond the call of duty and made a difficult day so much easier. It was lovely to be able to share memories of my friend with the staff. Thanks to everyone for looking after her, I really appreciate all you have done."

"The management and staff at Balclutha Court Care Home have made my mum feel so welcome and, although she was initially very anxious, have helped her to settle in quickly as a resident. The team are extremely hard working, friendly and go out of their way to build relationships with her. She is very well cared for, her needs and opinions are taken into account and she is always treated with dignity and respect. When visiting we are also made to feel very welcome and included and are highly impressed by the calm and professional atmosphere in the home. The rooms are very comfortable and kept to a high standard of cleanliness, as are all communal and lounge areas. My mum enjoys participating in the wide range of activities on offer within the home and thoroughly enjoys the outdoor trips and lunch outings. The catering is excellent, she enjoys the food on offer and the staff are very encouraging when helping her to choose from the daily menu. Overall, we feel that the home is excellent."

"My friend has been at Balclutha Court for nearly three years. During that time my friend has been well cared for and is well settled into a good routine. The staff have a very good knowledge of my friend and understand the best way to work with her. The nursing staff are very good and the support staff are also very good. The receptionist is always very welcoming and a good front of house staff member. The manager and her staff are also very helpful. They are always very pleasant and take the time to chat and update me on how my friend is and I feel we have a good relationship. I can discuss any worries I have about my friend and they will work with me to resolve any issues. Although my friend does not participate in any of the activities, I regularly see what is available for the residents - not only activities in the home but trips out for meals or visits to attractions. I have no hesitation in recommending Balclutha Court - the staff make the place what it is."

"My sister has been a resident at Balclutha Court for 7+ years. As her next of kin, I cannot praise management and staff enough for the care and assistance she receives within the home. Which gives me peace of mind knowing she is in a safe and friendly environment."

"My mum recently passed away in Balclutha CT. I have nothing but praise for the staff who looked after her during a very difficult time. From the helpful office staff to the attentive nursing and care staff, not to mention the behind the scenes catering and household. They made a very difficult time bearable and I would like to think pleasurable for my mum. Special mention to activities and all the arts and crafts and days out that they organised. Quite a home from home, everyone welcome including the dog!"

"I have found Balclutha to be a most comfortable, safe and friendly environment for my aunt. She is being very well cared for by every member of staff and has mentioned to me how everyone is so nice and helpful to her. I am kept informed at all times about my aunt's care and if I have any concerns I just have to ask. All the staff are friendly, approachable and caring."

"The best thing about Balclutha is the staff. They are all very caring people who have time for the residents. They always have a smile and a helping hand when needed. I don't worry about my mum when I'm not there as the staff are like family to her. Her face lights up with a smile when they pop into her room to check on her. I couldn't ask for better care for my mum."

"Balclutha Court is a warm, friendly care home. They take time to get to know their residents and their families. The home as a whole is spotlessly clean and there is always cleaning and maintenance staff somewhere in the background doing jobs that require attention. The staff are all friendly, caring and very patient, kind and courteous with not only Mum but all residents. It speaks for itself that the majority of staff have been employed long term. I cannot fault any aspect of Mums care. As I say every time I go to visit Mum she is happy, clean, clean clothes and well fed. The residents are also kept well motivated and entertained by the numerous activities and outings the staff organise. The staff keep us up to date continuously with any changes in Mums health and well-being or treatments being administered. Overall I would recommend anyone looking for a care home definitely give Balclutha a try."

"My parents came into the care home together and staff rearranged rooms so that they could be next door to one another. Both rooms were repainted and recarpeted when they moved in. Staff are invariably jolly and caring and gave my mother a good quality of life for at least six months before her health deteriorated. They cared for her tenderly in her last few months until her passing in March and since then, have worked hard at jollying my father along. I am touched that they also ask after my welfare when I come to visit."

"My mother in law lived in Balclutha Court for 2 years. Balclutha Court is a fantastic home. The staff are all so approachable and friendly and are great with the residents - the manager is great and has been there for many years which is so reassuring and would help you with anything. My wife does not keep that well and was unable to visit her Mum very often yet she had total peace of mind knowing that she was so well cared for. I would thoroughly recommend Balclutha Court to anyone who is looking for a place for their relative."

"Mum has been resident in Balclutha Court for nearly 3 years. Mum's care provision is excellent, staff are caring, professional and myself and my family know that mum is happy and settled at Balclutha Court. Family/friends are always made to feel welcome when visiting Balclutha Court. Activities are well organised and it is wonderful to witness everyone having fun, joining in sing a longs, dancing and generally having fun. Thanks to all at Balclutha Court for looking after mum."

"We cannot praise the staff highly enough, not just for looking after mum but my wife and I (not forgetting our little Bichon dog) We never expected to get to know the staff, they were all like family. We cannot fault anything or anyone. If anyone is thinking of having your loved one in Balclutha do not hesitate, they will be well cared for."

"The care, love and friendship my gran received in Balclutha Court was second to none. All aspects of care, from personal hygiene to assistance with attending hospital appointments and diet were delivered to the highest standard. My gran's room was beautiful and every member of staff took time to get to know her and really cared. The staff were so patient with my gran and the rest of our family. The care and support my gran received at the end of her life was so meaningful and heartfelt. The staff supported us so much through one of the most difficult times for us. The home manager, administration staff and all others made sure my gran and us as a family were comforted and supported. I have no hesitation in leaving this review for such a wonderful care home and team of staff. They really do treat their residents as family."

"My Mum stayed at Balclutha Court for just under two years. She was very happy there and very well looked after, she felt completely at home. The staff are all so friendly and helpful to the residents and visitors and myself and other members of the family were so content knowing that Mum was so happy and well cared for there. She used to go on the outings regularly when she was able and thoroughly enjoyed them. I would recommend Balclutha Court to anyone looking for care for a relative as it is just incomparable in my eyes."

"I have lived at Balclutha Court for seven years now and it is a great place to live. The staff are all really caring and look after you well, they take care of your every need. You can also go to the Manager and office staff about anything. The staff have also really supported me in staying independent - I attend a Tai Chi class every Monday. I would strongly recommend Balclutha Court to anyone who is needing care - it is a lovely place to live."

"My Gran moved into Balclutha Court on 30 April 2015. It was obvious very quickly that she had settled and the staff had gotten to know her really well. Myself and the rest of my family all had great peace of mind knowing that my Gran was so well looked after. The staff at Balclutha Court were all wonderful with her and got to know all her 'wee ways'. The Home is such a warm, friendly place and the staff and residents are all like family. The staff were always making extra cups of tea and snacks for her as she didn't always eat her lunch or evening meal. Sadly, my gran passed away in March this year and the staff were so attentive, caring and supportive which really helped us all through a difficult time. I would not hesitate to recommend Balclutha Court to anyone looking for somewhere for their loved ones."

"My sister-in-law has been a resident for just over a year and came from Aberdeen where she was born and bread. She has found it difficult to fit in but is well looked after and encouraged by the staff who all work very hard to cope with all levels of care. The rooms are comfortable and well furnished with some of the residents own bits and pieces allowed, carpets, curtains and bed linen all match, chairs are comfortable and everyone is encouraged to join in the activities which are all excellent. The management and staff are all helpful and I'm kept up to date with any problem that arises. The staff are caring and work hard to keep up standards. It's lovely welcoming home and I applaud all."

"My mother-in-law has been a resident at Balclutha Court for the last 4 1/2 years. During this time we have been extremely happy with the care & devotion shown to her since the unfortunate onset of vascular dementia. She is now completely bed bound and needs constant care with all her daily needs. At no time have we ever had concerns over her general or medical care, as the staff are very well trained and informative on both her general care and medical condition. We are encouraged to visit her at any time, day or night and there is always a trained member of staff present to allay any fears. Management are very approachable, compassionate and helpful with any questions we have. This attitude is very well reflected throughout the staff. We have no hesitation in highly recommending this establishment."

"My mum has been in Balclutha since March 2016. She settled in well, on her first day we were introduced to her named nurse and care/support worker. On arrival we were shown to her room and offered a cup of tea, the care staff then labelled all her clothes so that they didn't get lost or mixed up with others. The manager of the home came to visit mum at home to find out small but important things about her likes and dislikes. Since being in Balclutha my mum has been well cared for and really enjoys the weekly singing groups they bring in. When visiting staff are always available to answer any questions and a cup of tea is always on offer. I am updated on a regular basis about how my mum is doing, this gives me confidence about mums care at the home."
