Activities at Balclutha Court Care Home

At Balclutha Court our resident’s happiness is extremely important to us. We all know that a large part of this is keeping active and continuing to enjoy your interests and hobbies. At Balclutha Court, we have regular activities including arts and crafts, music, entertainment, trips to local attractions such as canal trips, safari parks and many more. Our activities team are always busy organising events, entertainment and excursions with the broadest possible appeal and many of our residents see living at Balclutha Court as an opportunity to develop a new skill or interest. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at Balclutha Court Care Home

National Beer Day

National beer day was spend with a beer tasting master class accompanied by nuts and nibbles. Everyone enjoyed guessing the origin of each beer and the ingredients. Beer tasting was followed by a game of beer pong which was so much fun and brought lots of laughter.

A Day at the Beach

A great day was had by all at Lunderson Bay. We joined some of the other care homes in our community for a picnic at the beach, some games and a good old fashioned ice-cream.

We do enjoy getting together with others from the community.

RAF Museum London

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

World Cocktail Day

World Cocktail day was at hit here at Balclutha Court. We had a Cocktail master class where everyone was invited to join in and make their own or sit back and have it made for them. Either way everyone had a wee taster along with some nibbles. A refreshing afternoon was had by all involved.

Residents take in the sights on barge trip

We do love an outing here at Balclutha, especially when it involves a sail and a traditional fish supper.

Residents enjoyed a scenic drive to Kirkintilloch and boarded the seagull trust barge. Our chippy was delivered to the water side and we ate it as we enjoyed a sail along the Forth and Clyde canal. Days like these keep us smiling for quite a while.

Art Historian virtual talk

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.
