Activities at Balclutha Court Care Home

At Balclutha Court our resident’s happiness is extremely important to us. We all know that a large part of this is keeping active and continuing to enjoy your interests and hobbies. At Balclutha Court, we have regular activities including arts and crafts, music, entertainment, trips to local attractions such as canal trips, safari parks and many more. Our activities team are always busy organising events, entertainment and excursions with the broadest possible appeal and many of our residents see living at Balclutha Court as an opportunity to develop a new skill or interest. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at Balclutha Court Care Home

Celebrations fit for a King

Excitement is in the air at Balclutha Court in Greenock where residents and staff have been busy celebrating the Kings Coronation.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a King.  Over the bank holiday weekend the home watched the Coronation on the big screen with some Fizz and Nibbles and on the Sunday they enjoyed a Royal Tea Party with live Entertainment. The whole home came together to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering.

The rich history of coronations

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

Ladies day at the races

We had a fun afternoon at our own version of Aintree Ladies day. We decorated and wore our best hats, enjoyed some nibbles and looked at fashion through the ages form Aintree. We placed our bets and shouted at the virtual jockeys.

Easter community party

We joined our local care homes and day care centres to celebrate Easter in style. We all brought our own picnic and drank our body weights in tea and coffee. Some of us even had a wee baileys. We had live entertainment and danced the leather off our shoes. We had an Easter bonnet competition (not to brag but we did win). We had a fantastic day meeting friends new and old.

Reminiscence

Here at Balclutha we love to reminisce about “the good old days” as  part of our regular life enrichment programme programme. We had a lovely afternoon looking at our local history, our childhoods and where we all grew up. We shared memories and laughed our socks off at each other’s stories. It’s nice to remember the fun stuff!

World Book Day

World book day was a hit here at Balclutha. We discussed our favourite Authors and titles from both the past and today. We shared stories about our favourite books and promoted our in-house library for those who didn’t know about it.
