Activities at Appletree Grange Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator is constantly arranging new activities to stimulate and catch the imagination of our residents. From visiting entertainers to a regular craft table to outings on the minibus, there is always something for our residents to keep them entertained. Our Activities Coordinator also takes the time to sit with each resident and go through a life history so they get to know what the likes and dislikes of each individual are and can tailor the activities to suit them. A monthly residents meeting is held to get the views of the residents and to get suggestions from them and their families about what they would like to do and everything that can be done to accommodate their requests is done.

Life at Appletree Grange Care Home

Book Club Corner

Across our services, our residents had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Birthday celebrations

We love birthday celebrations here at Appletree Grange and today we celebrated resident, Mabel’s. Mabel was absolutely delighted with her birthday cake and the rousing rendition of ‘Happy birthday’.

The birthday girl had a lovely day surrounded by her family and even enjoyed a zoom call with her daughter living in Australia.   Happy birthday, Mabel from everyone here at Appletree Grange!

Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentine’s Day. Our home was filled with flowers, cards, balloons and decorations as we celebrated the day of love in style with sweet treats and gifts.  We marked the day by sending cards to loved ones and watching a romantic film.  Our residents had the opportunity to taste delicious themed sweet and savoury treats whilst listening to all-time favourite love songs.  It was a lovely day and it was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get involved with the day’s festivities.

Cupcakes and mocktails

Residents from Appletree Grange enjoyed an afternoon of cupcake decorating as part of their baking masterclass which took them back to their younger years.  Baking sessions are a popular activity for the home and the activity had taste buds tingling.

Trudi Gillespie, General Manager said: “The residents enjoyed getting creative with their baking as it not only brings back memories of their childhood, but also times when they’ve baked with their own children and grandchildren. Once all the cakes were set, we all enjoyed sitting down with a mocktail to enjoy!”

Cheese and Wine

The Residents at Appletree Grange enjoyed a sensory experience as they put their taste buds to the test,  tasting  different cheeses and different types of wine at a ‘Cheese and Wine’ afternoon.

Everyone involved enjoyed chatting about the different cheeses and wine and pointing out which one they liked best which turned out to be the good old cheddar cheese! “Thank you for a lovely afternoon!” One of the Residents remarked.

Everyone is now looking forward to their next group gathering.
