Activities at Wadhurst Manor Care Home

On a weekly basis we have many visitors to the home from the people like the University of the Third age and local small animal farms, who bring in their chickens and sheep. We also like to go out shopping and on day trips to local garden centres and when the weather is good picnics and tours of the beautiful local countryside. We have speciality days at the home which could be a theme of a country, or for specific times of year, including Halloween, Bonfire Night or Christmas. We have card games and art classes and a serious knitting team in the home who produce blankets and premature baby clothes for the local maternity unit.

Sarah Smith

Assistant Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Wadhurst Manor in many different roles since December 2011. Prior to this I worked as a nurse, exercise teacher and and preschool supervisor. I have 4 lovely children who are now grown up and travelling the world. My hobbies include visiting my children, singing, dancing, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, reading and amateur dramatics.I find enabling residents to remain active and engaged both physically and mentally is a wonderfully rewarding job. I particularly enjoy working on our memory lane units becoming immersed in their realities, enabling them to live their best lives by concentrating on what they can do not what they can't.

Life at Wadhurst Manor Care Home

Off for some retail therapy

It is so important that the residents at Wadhurst Manor stay as independent as possible. Jimmy had a wonderful afternoon with his daughter taking in the sights of Wadhurst village. Enjoying some retail therapy and having some lunch in the village.

Archery Demonstration

What a day we had. We invited local Archery club into our gardens for a talk and demonstration. Arthur a resident at Wadhurst Manor has always belonged to the club and it has been his passion forever. He wanted to see the sport in action one more time so we made that happen for him. Everyone got to have a go and it was an amazing experience for everyone.

Supporting our local School

Sacred Heart school are currently working on a project to build their own greenhouse. When the residents heard about this, they were keen to get involved and help out. We are now collecting 2 Litre empty bottles to help them with their mission.

Visit to Petals Garden Centre

Residents enjoyed a lovely afternoon at a local Garden centre. They had the opportunity to have a walk around the centre picking flowers for the home. There was even time for afternoon tea with homemade cake too.

Masterclass with Blooming Haus

On 25th May, our residents enjoyed an afternoon masterclass on floristry, presented by Blooming Haus. This was an activity greatly enjoyed by the residents. Further to this, they had a great time putting together their own flower arrangements using what they had learnt.

International Nurses' Day

Our residents and staff enjoyed International Nurses' Day in the 12th May 2021. In honour of the occasion, we held an award ceremony; the residents voted for the most funny, most caring and the nurse that goes the extra mile.

It was a lovely surprise for the winning nurses, as they were completely unaware that this was happening. All of our nurses were gifted with a box of chocolates to say thank you for their hard work and dedication, and our winning nurses were given a special Barchester umbrella – just in time for the rainy weather!
