Activities at Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home

At Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home, our Lifestyle/Activities staff endeavour to provide a wide range of activities that suit all residents' physical and mental needs. There are regular minibus trips to nearby places of interest, including visits to local beaches and shows. We also have a film club, gentlemen's club, arts and crafts club, with musical entertainment once a week. Activities are very important to the staff of Plas-Y-Dderwen, making the home a fun and active place for all the residents who live here.

Lisa Peart

Activities Coordinator

Hello, I am Lisa and I have recently joined the team at Plas y Dderwen. I have worked in the care sector since 2009 and I have a passion for working with people.
Although I am new to this role, I have always enjoyed being creative and bringing a smile and a sense of joy to others.
I am looking forward to developing an Activities programme that will bring enrichment to residents' lives through meaningful Activities.

Life at Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home

VE Day Celebrations

Staff dressed up to honour the hard working service men and women of the time, and the residents took the opportunity to swap wartime experiences and the joy they all felt at this time 75 years ago when the war ended.

Easter Bunnies

Just before Easter, the staff and residents were very happy to welcome 4 little new additions to our home. It turns out that one of our ‘female’ rabbits was not actually a female, much to our surprise.

Messages from Residents

Team members at Plas-Y-Dderwen are trying really hard to keep the residents and their family members connected through this time of isolation by using Skype, phone calls, emails and such.

Yesterday we decided that we would try reaching a larger proportion of Plas Y Dderwens family and friends by using some messages that reflect the individual residents' personalities and Facebook. The response we’ve got has been amazing with nearly 6000 views and over 40 shares in less than 24 hours.

The residents truly loved this activity as it gave them a chance to polish off their funny bones and really compete to see who could come up with something to make the others chuckle or just share a touching thought.

Our New Guests

Honey is mostly black with white socks and Flopsie is black with a splash of white on her chest. We use Flopsie and Honey for pet therapy in the home and they seem to be making a real difference. We have seen an improvement in our residents' moods and ability to focus since bringing them into the home. As one of our ladies said, holding them makes her feel happy, and that’s what makes us happy as a home.

Burns Night

We celebrated Burns night on the 25th of January. There were right knees up, the activities team dressed in tartan kilts and the whole home sampled some Haggis with a wee dram.

Elvis Presley's Birthday

The activates team celebrated Elvis Presley’s on January 8th with some fancy dress and karaoke with the residents. They were joined by the manager and deputy manager in showing the residents some dance moves popular to the period.
