Activities at Peony Court Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to enhancing residents' quality of life by providing regular social and psychological stimulation. The activities can be undertaken in groups or ‘one-to-one’ and are based on individual preferences. We have a varied programme, with the goal of appealing to the interests and capabilities of all residents as best as possible. For example, there's pottery, baking, Scrabble, art classes, exercise sessions and much more. The Activities Coordinators also organise visits from entertainers, local groups, including school choirs, religious services and outings on the minibus.

Activities

Hi! I'm Paul, the Activities Co-Ordinator at Peony Court.

Before I joined the care sector I worked for many years in the hotel industry, managing housekeeping, hospitality and customer experience. Several members of my family have a history of working in care and I thought, maybe that could be me as well. I'm a natural entertainer with a flare for bringing smiles to people's faces and this was absolutely the right move for me.

Here at Peony Court, I make a point of getting to know each and every resident and their families. I tailor the activities program to suit individuals, no one is the same and everyone has different interests. It's my aim to be empathetic, enthusiastic and engaging with all of my residents. We have incredible activities and events here guided by exactly what our residents want, from pampering sessions to singing and dancing, chair exercises to arts and crafts, and diversity is absolutely the key!

I can't wait to welcome more residents and guests to Peony Court!

A full House

Did you know? The last Friday of each month we host "Tea at the Court" - it's our take on the perfect afternoon tea, with home-made bakes, copious amounts of tea and live entertainment. Our October 'Tea' saw record numbers of people join us, in fact we counted 59 humans plus one dog! An event not to be missed, we've recommended guests book early for our next one.

Halloween Cheese with Paxton & Whitfield

Residents and guests at Peony Court celebrated Halloween with a difference - we had a fab cheese tasting session with Royal Warrant Holders Paxton & Whitfield. Cheesy expert Georgina joined us virtually to tell us all about the marvels of spooky orange cheese as well as washed rind and blue varieties and we enjoyed matching up a glass of vino with each of the yummy cheeses on offer. It really was a spooktacular evening!

Animal Magic!

Resident's & staff had the ultimate treat yesterday courtesy of a nearby farm. Karen popped in with a pony called Dotty, a dog called Lila, a chicken called Elsa, 2 baby chicks, 2 guinea pigs and a lionhead bunny rabbit! This farm specifically takes in rescued animals and ensure they are brought back to health and looked after in a loving environment. Residents got to pet the animals and feed the pony and rabbit a carrot stick or 2.... the bunny was a little greedy though and tried to eat cake as well! We can't wait to welcome Karen and friends back in the spring when the baby lambs are born!

CQC Success and our 2nd Birthday!

Celebrating life is something we do every day but this year we've had a couple of extra reasons to celebrate. We recently had our 1st CQC inspection and were awarded "good" AND it was our 2nd birthday! What better way to mark both occasions than with a party, something we KNOW how to do well! We had canapés, cocktails & Bubbles and an awesome live band, The BusStops, a 60's covers band. Residents, family and friends had an absolute blast and we cannot express how thankful we are to all those who helped us along the way!

A Diamond Experience

Residents recently had the absolute pleasure of attending The Diamond Riding school for the disabled, they learnt about the horses and ponies and got to get hands on grooming them and feeding them pre-approved treats!

We ended our wonderful experience with tea and cake... naturally!
