Activities at Peony Court Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to enhancing residents' quality of life by providing regular social and psychological stimulation. The activities can be undertaken in groups or ‘one-to-one’ and are based on individual preferences. We have a varied programme, with the goal of appealing to the interests and capabilities of all residents as best as possible. For example, there's pottery, baking, Scrabble, art classes, exercise sessions and much more. The Activities Coordinators also organise visits from entertainers, local groups, including school choirs, religious services and outings on the minibus.

Activities

Hi! I'm Paul, the Activities Co-Ordinator at Peony Court.

Before I joined the care sector I worked for many years in the hotel industry, managing housekeeping, hospitality and customer experience. Several members of my family have a history of working in care and I thought, maybe that could be me as well. I'm a natural entertainer with a flare for bringing smiles to people's faces and this was absolutely the right move for me.

Here at Peony Court, I make a point of getting to know each and every resident and their families. I tailor the activities program to suit individuals, no one is the same and everyone has different interests. It's my aim to be empathetic, enthusiastic and engaging with all of my residents. We have incredible activities and events here guided by exactly what our residents want, from pampering sessions to singing and dancing, chair exercises to arts and crafts, and diversity is absolutely the key!

I can't wait to welcome more residents and guests to Peony Court!

'Words' of Art

A love of art is down to one's own subjective taste but this week we experienced a different perspective... We were joined by local poet Jill Saudek who brings art to life by writing poetry about it. It was incredibly interesting and certainly makes you think, what would you write about your favourite piece of artwork??

Tuesday Tunes

What better way to blow away the cobs than with a bit of "singing in the rain" - Well not literally, thankfully we were indoors. Every Tuesday we head off to a singalong group for older folks, singing is good for the soul and we get tea and biscuits for our efforts at the end as well!

Say it with Flowers

Valentines didn't go unmarked this year, residents took the opportunity of doing some flower arrangements with the help of a talented virtual florist Kathryn who talked us all through the process and how to make our displays look wonderful - I'm sure you'll agree we did a fab job!

The Funky Fidler!

Resident's were in for a treat recently as we welcomed back the talented Jimmy, AKA The Funky Fidler! Jimmy plays the guitar, piano, mandolin and even sings!

Who needs The Ritz?

If you hadn't already heard, Peony Court hosts a fabulous afternoon tea on the last Friday of every month, colloquially known as "Tea at the Court".  We are not quite as posh as The Ritz but if you enjoy home made cakes and bakes, copious amounts of tea and fabulous live entertainment then Peony Court really is the place to be!

Tea at the Court is one of our most popular events so we always recommend guests get themselves on the VIP list early!

Coffee and Flowers

Trees with no leaves and grey clouds isn't particularly appealing but luckily for us we have some green-fingered residents who love helping us select plants and flowers for the home, both inside and out. And with all that shopping naturally we had to stop for a coffee as well!
