Activities at Peony Court Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to enhancing residents' quality of life by providing regular social and psychological stimulation. The activities can be undertaken in groups or ‘one-to-one’ and are based on individual preferences. We have a varied programme, with the goal of appealing to the interests and capabilities of all residents as best as possible. For example, there's pottery, baking, Scrabble, art classes, exercise sessions and much more. The Activities Coordinators also organise visits from entertainers, local groups, including school choirs, religious services and outings on the minibus.

Activities

Hi! I'm Paul, the Activities Co-Ordinator at Peony Court.

Before I joined the care sector I worked for many years in the hotel industry, managing housekeeping, hospitality and customer experience. Several members of my family have a history of working in care and I thought, maybe that could be me as well. I'm a natural entertainer with a flare for bringing smiles to people's faces and this was absolutely the right move for me.

Here at Peony Court, I make a point of getting to know each and every resident and their families. I tailor the activities program to suit individuals, no one is the same and everyone has different interests. It's my aim to be empathetic, enthusiastic and engaging with all of my residents. We have incredible activities and events here guided by exactly what our residents want, from pampering sessions to singing and dancing, chair exercises to arts and crafts, and diversity is absolutely the key!

I can't wait to welcome more residents and guests to Peony Court!

if there is one thing we know how to do at Peony Court it's celebrating the good times!!

Mum's often have a tough job on their hands, we know that so we treated our mums to a pink rose and some delicious home made cupcakes, hand delivered by our very own fabulous Phyliss!

I like to move it... I like to move it move it

Did you know that regular light exercise is good for us all, but especially good for older adults.

The benefits of regular exercise include (but aren't limited to):
1,  Improved heart and lung health
2. Reduced risk of diabetes, strokes and some cancers
3. Strengthening and maintaining muscle strength
4. Maintaining or losing weight
5. Improvement of skin quality / reduced risk of pressure ulcers
6. Reducing the risk of falls.

Exercise can also help release happy endorphins AND it can also help us live longer!

With this in mind we run multiple sessions each week adapted to suit our residents abilities.  We also have a lifestyle and exercise class every week on Tuesdays with Age UK.

Valentines Winners!

In celebration of Valentines Day we asked residents, relatives and friends how they met their significant other and we had a flood of fabulous stories submitted!

It was a tough decision but our winners were Janet & Stephen, dear friends of Peony Court. Here's their story:

Stephen and his pal both had their eye on Janet and instead of an old-fashioned dual to fight for Janet's affections they went for a pint and tossed a coin! Stephen won the coin toss and they've been together ever since, the 3 of them also remained friends over the years!

Janet and Stephen won a box of the Peony Court bespoke cupcakes for sharing their wonderful story, congratulations!

International Women's Day

We are so so lucky to have a whole bunch of fabulous ladies here at Peony Court, all special in their own way. And today we celebrate not just our female residents but our female staff, who do a wonderful job.

Male or female, we are one, we support each other, we are family.

Happy International Women's Day!
