Activities at Pentland View Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Pentland View Care Home

Cook Off 2024

Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.

Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life.  Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

A trip back in time...

Residents enjoyed a trip back in time while visiting the North Coast Visitor Centre and Museum on Friday past. They rounded off the trip with a walk across the road to enjoy a cuppa and cake at Rosie’s Café. Residents were able to spend the afternoon walking amongst the museum’s exhibits, and even managed to learn a few new things! Of particular interest were the Dounreay exhibits as well as the old stones and Viking history.

Marion Owen, a resident said: “What a wonderful place! It’s so lovely to get out and about!” Residents even ran in to familiar faces while out and about in tthe town and enjoyed chatting with friend old and new.

Keeping fit with Zumba

Residents and staff at Pentland View laced up their trainers and warmed-up for a session of seated Zumba curtesy of Zumba with Steph.

Staff and residents decided to try something new on Wednesday the 26th and warmed up for a session of seated Zumba. Stephanie Harper, who runs the sessions, led residents, guests and staff through thirty minutes of movement in the Zumba style, but tailored to people with limited or poor mobility. The tunes were great and spirits high, and many voices were heard singing along.

Visit to Castletown Garden Centre

Keen gardeners Barry and Willie B. accompanied Oksana and Lachlan to Castletown Garden Centre to help pick out some plants for the garden. They were very knowledgeable and had a great afternoon out, even teaching Lachlan and Oksana a few things! They knew all of the plants and flowers and had many helpful suggestions for the garden.

They were gentlemen and insisted on pulling the trolley with the group’s selected plants and even helped to load the car up when they were all finished! They plan to help put the plants in to the raised beds when the weather cooperates!

Eden Project

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.

During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories.  A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Song time with local Playgroup

Pentland View recently hosted an intergenerational playgroup for residents and members of the local community. The event, which took place on Tuesday 11th of June welcomed the group of Mums and babies who attend the Highland Peep group in Thurso to enjoy music, games and activities with residents at the home.

The group of mums and toddlers also enjoyed a sing along with residents to their favourite songs such as “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and  “Wind the Bobbin Up.”  Other favourite activities were the parachute and sensory bubbles, as well as a reading (and sing along!) of Old MacDonald.
