Activities at Overslade House Care Home

Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.

At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.

We definitely have something for everyone!

Julie Bateman

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.

I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.

I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!

Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

Games Afternoon

Residents enjoy our weekly games afternoon throughout the home, where they get to compete with each other and our staff to win some delicious prizes. With a wide range of games that change regularly, hoopla is one of our favourites, and usually results in a tense final. It's all fun and games and everyone is a winner in our eyes!

Zumba Fun

Here at Overslade House, we keep fit with our regular Zumba lessons. Kirstin keeps us moving with music and gentle exercise. For the less mobile of us, she brings in instruments for us to play along. We all look forward to our Zumba lessons and find the classes very entertaining. Please come along if you would like to get involved!

Garden Centre Visit

Residents enjoyed a beautiful day trip out to one of our local garden centres. They find the centre very calming and relaxing because of the beautiful scenery and, once they've had a look around, they always make sure to stop off at the café for a lovely cup of tea.

A Special Birthday

A Special Birthday

We held a special birthday celebration in October for one of our volunteers. Julie comes in most days and has made a lot of friends, so we wanted to show her how much we care and appreciate her support.

Doris the Falcon

Doris the Falcon

We had a lovely visit from Wings of Freedom; everyone at the home got to experience this beautiful bird up close and personal. Doris, as she is called, behaved impeccably and was a joy to see.

Animal Antics

Animal Antics

We had a wonderful afternoon when John from Animal Parties brought his menagerie of animals in for us to see and hold. There were insects, reptiles, exotics, furrys and his very own owl.

We were joined by Cubbington Mill and our local community nursing home, Willow Trees. We were also joined by lots of children with parents, who were a lot braver that some of us!

We have had John in a few times, but every time is always special. Everyone really enjoyed the noise of the delighted children and being able to interact with such exotic pets.
