Activities at Overslade House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.

At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.

We definitely have something for everyone!

Julie Bateman

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.

I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.

I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!

Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

Home celebrate 200-years of rugby

Overslade House Care Home in Rugby, Warwickshire, decided to celebrate 200 Years of the game Rugby. In 2023 it is 200 years since William Webb Ellis took the ball in his arms and ran with it on The Close at Rugby School with total disregard to the rules of the game.

To commemorate this historical occasion, Overslade House held a Summer Fete within the home due to adverse weather conditions. Overslade House sold donated books and hand knitted items to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research and Children with Cancer UK and raised over £200 for these charities.   Lady Mayor, Maggie O’Rourke joined the celebrations, and said “It is wonderful what you do for your residents holding events like these and you have a beautiful home”   The Alpaca Pals also paid us a visit and behaved impeccably as they went from room to room, all 90 of them, meeting our residents who commented how soft and cute they were. They truly lifted everybody’s spirits. Entertainment was provided by Simon Coates who is through to the final of Rugby’s Got Talent.

Herstory of Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair.  The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.

History of Wall's icecream

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event in celebration on National Ice Cream Day. Wall’s team took us on a great journey through history, sharing fascinating details about the brand since its launch in 1922. We learned about major innovations such as the introduction of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister, and Carte d'Or.

Residents were treated to a singalong to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best-of-all, an ice-cream tasting session. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our ice-cream lovers.

Dogs Trust

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.

International Picnic Week

Overslade House went all out for International Picnic Week which is celebrated this year from June 17-25.

Residents and their visitors were invited to take a trip to Bradgate Country Park in Leicestershire for afternoon tea and ice creams in this beautiful park surrounded by Deer. Bradgate House is cloaked in this wonderful landscape, the birth place of Lady Jane Grey a Queen only 16 years of age and who only reigned for 9 days. Residents had a wonderful backdrop of the grounds and the reservoir sparkling from the sunlight bouncing off it.
