Activities at Marnel Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Sarah Yarney

Activities Coordinator

I have worked with the elderly for more than forty years in various roles, gaining varied knowledge and experience. I have been a relative at Marnel Lodge for ten years and worked as an admin assistant for a year and a half. I have now taken on the exciting role of Activities Coordinator at Marnel Lodge and I am looking forward to working with the residents, families and the Marnel team to start some new activities and adventures.

A trip to the Basingstoke Canal

On Thursday, residents and team members travelled in the minibus to the Basingstoke canal in Odiham. Where we boarded Dawn, an accessible canal boat. Our journey took us 2.5 miles to the Barley Mow slipway.

We enjoyed each other’s company as well as looking at the passing scenery, looking out for wildlife, and waving to passers-by. We all enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of our beautiful surroundings.

On arrival at the Barley Mow, the crew moored the boat, and we enjoyed a delicious picnic lunch on board the boat before our return journey back along the canal to Odiham. Once again taking in the wonderful scenery.
