Activities at Forest Hill Care Home

We are a team of four activity organisers here at Forest Hill. We have a wide range of activities within the home including: musical entertainment, Arts & Crafts, Clubs for like minded people such as flower arranging and gardening, board games, baking (where the best bit is the eating afterwards!), and we celebrate special events throughout the year, such Easter, Mothers Day & Fathers Day and Christmas. We also have trips out on a regular basis using our own minibus, where we find out places of interest each person would like to visit. One of our more popular trips is to the local ice cream farm. We recently fulfilled one of our ladies dreams to visit the Chelsea Flower Show, something she had always wanted to do.

For our ladies and gentlemen who are nursed in bed, we have one to one times, which may be hand or foot massage or reading, & listening to music. We encourage families to get as involved as they can with activities and outings and have recently created a Terrace Cafe area, where visiting families can take their loved one for tea & biscuits and spend valuable time together.

A Trip to the Fair

A Trip to the Fair

Two of our staff members took a new resident, John, to see his old colleagues at the fair. John used to work at this fair, and as it was visiting the area, we decided to take him along.

John has a diagnosis of dementia and lives with us on our Memory Lane community. The staff members said that the trip to the fair and seeing his old work colleagues made his day! He was able to hold conversations with his colleagues, which is something that we haven’t seen much of since he came to live with us a few weeks ago.

John's mum also lives with us; he has spent time with her and this has made a real difference to both of them.

Dementia Quality Mark

Dementia Quality Mark

We were awarded the Dementia Qualty Mark here at Forest Hill! We needed 25 'quality points' to achieve this - and we received 25.

According to Dementia Partnership's website, "the Dementia Quality Mark (DQM) aims to reassure people choosing services that the care being given meets the needs of people with dementia. For example, a DQM would be particularly helpful for families wanting to select a care home. The DQM also sets standards, which those providing services can aspire to."

General Manager, Lizzie Dodd, said: I'm so proud of everyone here at Forest hill - they've worked so hard for this. Definitely a cause for celebration!"

Snakes at the Seaside

Snakes at the Seaside

On a trip to the seaside, a man was walking along with a boa constrictor snake around his neck, and he was happy to come and show the residents the beautiful creature.
