Activities at The Dales Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Kay Thompson
Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales. I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun! Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!
Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.
I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Life at The Dales Care Home
Rubik Cube Magic
One of our residents has been having a go with a Rubik Cube and one of our staff members, Billy Lapuz came in with his son to show our residents how fast he can do it! Absolutely amazing seeing it finished so quickly. Billy’s son can complete it in 32 seconds or less, he’ll be breaking the world record before you know it. Also amazing seeing different shaped cubes completed so fast!
Professional Coffee Morning with Dementia Friendly Keighley
A lovely coffee morning here at The Dales with the amazing Angie and Phil from Dementia Friendly Keighley. Wonderful with understanding how loved ones living with dementia may feel and learn how to support them in various ways. The wonderful weekly activities have been shared with us and we are looking forward to visiting them soon.
A fond farewell
After over 30 years of continuous service at The Dales in Draughton, much-loved nurse, Elaine Turnbull has decided to retire. Staff and residents at the home sent Elaine off in style with champagne, flowers and presents to thank her for many years of dedication. Everyone at the home has very fond memories of Elaine and she will be sadly missed.
Mayfair of Nightingales
Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.
We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas. The experience was truly enjoyed by all.
Sing and dance with Terry
Terry was back with us yesterday! It’s amazing how much our residents sing, dance, smile, laugh and fully join in. One of the residents said to Terry “I think you need to be here every day”, so as you can tell everyone is looking forward to next time already! Lovely finishing off with a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake.
The colour of patchwork
Staff and residents from Barchester’s The Dales care home, in Draughton had a fantastic time visiting sister home, Threshfield Court care home, in Threshfield where they all enjoyed participating in a patchwork session as they learnt new skills.
