Activities at The Dales Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Kay Thompson
Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales. I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun! Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!
Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.

Mini Bus Excursion
A wonderful morning on our first mini bus excursion!
We went to the lovely Moss & Moor: Garden Centre and Restaurant, had a lovely little stroll round admiring the wonderful items in the shop (starting the birthday gift list) and went on to enjoy a warm cup of tea and a hot chocolate!
Enjoyed by everyone and looking forward to next time already! Where shall we go next!!
Valentine’s Day
A lovely afternoon of spreading the love for Valentine’s Day! Romantic dining areas set up and wonderful buns and heart biscuits made by one of our chefs, Kevin.
All followed with playing games, listening and singing along to love songs and spreading the love to everyone!
Hope everyone had a lovely day of spreading the love too!
Local Town Mayor visits the home
Skipton Town Mayor, Sheila Bentley, has visited The Dales Care to have a cup of tea, a slice of cake and to cut the red ribbon for our mini bus.
Sheila Bentley joined residents and staff of the home for a good talk of places we are all looking forward to visiting. “A very nice and welcoming home, you can see everyone is looking forward to the bus trips!”
It has been many years without a mini bus but finally everyone is looking forward. Our first trip in to a local garden centre, for a good look around and having a lovely cup of tea and a slice of cake.
20-years long service celebrated
An acting Deputy Manager at The Dales Care Home in Draughton has received a prestigious 20 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 20 years. Melanie Col, now Acting Deputy Manager, started at Barchester in February 2004 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.
Roisin Doyle, General Manager of The Dales said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 20 years of loyal service with Melanie. She has demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at The Dales when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with Melanie!”
Burns celebrations
The Dales care home in Draughton prepared a traditional Burns Night Supper to the tune of bagpipes and the fun continued well into the night.
Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities learning the art of Scottish Country dancing and having a love tour of Scotland on YouTube to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding race’ – the haggis.
The magic music afternoon with Terry!
Music is a magic medicine! Very cold outside snow and ice but the sun was shining inside and out! Everyone singing along with a little bit of seat dancing.
Terry have been coming along and singing for everyone for a long time now, no-one ever forgets him and remember the songs he sings. Wonderful having everyone fully enjoy and join in, always ready for a cup of tea and a slice of cake after. We are looking forward to next time already.
