Activities at The Dales Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Kay Thompson
Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales. I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun! Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!
Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.
I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Introducing Tiny Tina
What a wonderful morning having four-week-old Tiny Tina visiting us! She was so tiny and so cute we wanted her to move in!
The magic effect anything with four legs has on staff and residents.
We would like to thank one of our residents' family for introducing us to Tiny Tina. The wonderful effect it has had on everyone introducing us to your lambs every spring in the past 3 years!

The Dales charitable foundation donated to IMT Forever CIC
IMT Forever CIC, a well-known group working along with Age Concern Todmorden, in Todmorden, is widely known as Inspire, Motivate and Transform, a social enterprise supporting local communities to thrive. It is looking forward to receiving a grant of £720 from Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.
The Dales Care Home, run by Barchester Healthcare, nominated the charity for the grant for the great work they provide for the community. Roisin Doyle, General Manager at The Dales Care Home, heard that the group needed some support, which is essential for the running of their group activities. Roisin Doyle contacted Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, a charity that helps older people and adults with a disability or mental health problems across England, Scotland and Wales, by offering grants to help people connect or re-connect with others in their local community.
Following a successful application process, Roisin and IMT Forever CIC were thrilled to learn that the full grant had been given. Rebecca Slaven, director of IMT Forever CIC, said: “For individuals with limited mobility and access to outside services or social activities, Boogie Bingo offers a much-needed physical and mental boost — a fun, uplifting experience that fosters connection, anticipation, and a sense of belonging. It also opens up opportunities to interact with and meet others beyond their housing complex, all while remaining in the comfort and safety of their residence.”
Roisin Doyle said: “This charity does a fantastic job for very little money, and they are able to support people of all abilities, including people living with dementia. They enable people living with disabilities to thrive in physical activities and mental wellbeing. I’m thrilled that The Dales have been able to help them secure this grant.”

VE Day

90th Birthday Celebrations
This month we have had triple 90th birthday celebrations, so we thought, just to add to the celebrations, we would take our residents out for a pub lunch celebration!
We went to the Bay Horse Skipton, and it was enjoyed by everyone, lovely food, a lovely little drink and everyone was full of laughter.

St. Patrick's Day
It is a day that commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland and, by extension, celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish.
A lovely celebration of St Patrick’s Day! A day full of joy, enjoyment and happiness.
The Irish music works magically, having everyone going along with fun, games and lots of laughter!

World Book Day!
What an amazing day with World Book Day, everyone full of love, laughter and totally amazed! A little bit of a theme was Harry Potter, so we invited the Owl Adventures to come along.
It was amazing to meet 11-month-old Spud the Indian Scops Owl, 6-year-old Dusty the Dark-Breasted Barn Owl, 12-year-old Eva the Canadian Great Horned Owl, 8-year-old Roland the Harris Hawk and 4-year-old Athena the Russian Steppe Eagle! A wonderful, amazing therapy for everyone.
We really were totally amazed.
Thank you so much to Emily and Owen for introducing us to them. We will definitely be inviting you again soon!
