Activities at The Dales Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Kay Thompson

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales.  I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun!  Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!

Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.

I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Life at The Dales Care Home

World Book Day

Here at The Dales, we enjoyed a lovely World Book Day. I thought it was a good idea to dress up as Where’s Wally’s girlfriend, Wilma. Where’s Wilma in the Photos!? We went through some of our favourite books, did some Where’s Wally searching and enjoyed a lovely cup of tea.

Historic Royal Palaces

Across our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Virtual Book Club

We had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

National Pizza Day

A very tasty afternoon with the National Pizza Day. After a good hand wash we started to celebrate the National Pizza day by putting together 6 big pizzas. 2 Vegetables, 2 Pepperoni and 2 Hawaiian, our head chef placed them in the oven and added salad and chips. Very tasty.

Chocolate Day

We have been doing lots of exercise already this year and felt we needed to treat ourselves. Yummy melted chocolate is one of the best treats ever, along with fruit and marshmallows to dip in. We think we need our own chocolate day more often.

Love is in the air!

The Dales care home, in Skipton, was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day.   Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by creating heart-shaped decorations to decorate the home, blowing up heart balloons for everywhere, gifting each other home-made sweets, cakes and treats and singing along to love songs with Stevie.

General Manager, Roisin Doyle, said: “We’ve all had a lovely day decorating the home and making gifts for each other and for our loved ones. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either in person or via video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”
