Activities at Chacombe Park Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Heather Gooch

Activities Coordinator

My name is Heather and I am the Head of Activities here at Chacombe Park. My role is to ensure that all residents are supported in enjoying hobbies and events that enrich their life.

I have a Bachelors degree in Theatre Performance, as well as a PGCE in Secondary Drama. I have previously worked for another Barchester home back in 2012 before working as a secondary school teacher, teaching Drama at both GCSE and A Level. I have a passion for person centred care, which has come from my love of pastoral work during my time as a teacher. I want each resident to feel appreciated and supported to enjoy the skills/hobbies that they have treasured before their time at Chacombe.

In my spare time I enjoy singing, cross stitch and learning new skills. I endeavour to bring these hobbies and passions into my role here at Chacombe, as well as learn some new skills from the vast range of knowledge that our residents can bring!

Life at Chacombe Park Care Home

Christmas Time at Chacombe

Christmas Time at Chacombe

We had lots of fun at Chacombe over the Christmas period. The local Brownies came to entertain residents with Christmas carols, as did the bell ringers. We were also visited by a dance troupe, who put on a show for everybody.

St Andrew's Day

St Andrew's Day

Chacombe Park residents and families were treated to an early celebration of St Andrew's Day for all to enjoy.

Lone bag pipe player, Richard Jasper, accompanied the amazing and talented local Scottish dance troupe, the Acushla Highland Dancers.

The celebration didn’t stop there, as delicious Scottish-themed cupcakes were served with refreshments along with an evening meal of haggis, neeps and tatties.

Mulled wine, hot nibbles, and a wonderful display of fireworks were on the agenda for the residents of Chacombe Park who were celebrating bonfire night.

Happy Birthday, Margaret!

Happy Birthday, Margaret!

The lovely Margaret was greeted with the most delicious chocolate and strawberry cake as residents and staff sang Happy Birthday!

Halloween

Halloween

Activities Coordinator, Hannah, gave the residents a bit of a chortle when she welcomed them to the Halloween party dressed as a female vampire who had just eaten her lunch! A good old singalong and hocus pocus dancing was the order of the afternoon as the witching hours came over Chacombe Park.

Ghoulish Humour and Pumpkin Carving

Ghoulish Humour and Pumpkin Carving

Chacombe Park residents had a lovely creative afternoon carving pumpkins in readiness for Halloween and sharing there humorous ghoulish stories.
