Activities at Cadbury Hall Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Hannah Lewis

Activities Co Ordinator

Hi, my name is Hannah and I am the Activities Coordinator at Cadbury Hall.

I studied ‘Creative Expressive Arts, Health and Wellbeing’ at university and am passionate about using the arts to aid people’s social, physical, and mental wellbeing. In my spare time I love to dance, sing, and act, and help to run a local drama group for children aged 10-18.

With the support of all staff at Cadbury Hall and feedback from residents, we aim for a varied and person-centred activity schedule to help the residents lead rich and fulfilling lives. The best part of my day is seeing the residents get stuck in with the activities and looking at the smiles on their faces.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

VE DAY Reflections Fay & Pam

VE Day Reflections by Pam & Fay

At Cadbury Hall we took a trip down memory lane with Fay and Pam who shared their heartfelt reflections on VE Day!

Pam VE Day Memories

I was in my early 20’s

As I think back to VE Day, I want to share the emotions that filled the air that day. I was in my twenties, soaking in the atmosphere at a pub in Ruth with my friend Lown and my cousin Joh. It was a whirlwind of emotions—relief, joy, pride, and even a twinge of sadness as I remembered those we had lost. The sounds of laughter and singing mingled with cheers of celebration, creating a symphony of hope and togetherness.

I vividly remember the sheer happiness around me. Despite the recent memories of bombs and the fear that had loomed over us, the day felt bright as there was no rain and no darkness in the skies. It was a liberating feeling to know we wouldn’t have to ration our food anymore, and to finally feel safe at home again.

It was heart-warming to see people exchanging smiles and hugs—a mix of those celebrating victory and others reflecting on their losses. The atmosphere was electric, filled with the sounds of music and chatter, a community reconnecting after such a long struggle.

VE Day left a lasting impact on me, shaping my worldview and deepening my appreciation for freedom and community. It was a reminder that even in the hardest times, hope prevails.

Thank you for allowing me to share my memories. Let’s continue to honour and understand the significance of this historic day.

Celebration of Peace

Fay  VE Day Memories

Reflecting on VE Day brings back such a mix of emotions. I was about 18 years old and celebrating at home with my parents. The day off school allowed us to truly appreciate the victory together.

I felt immense relief and joy knowing that the war was over, and the atmosphere was filled with celebration. Laughter, music, and cheers echoed everywhere as the community came together. I vividly remember a big truck filled with people driving by, spreading happiness and excitement.

VE Day made me proud of what we overcame together. It was a moment that united us and marked the beginning of a hopeful future.

Thank you for letting me share my memories!

VE Day Celebrations at Cadbury Hall

Honouring 80 Years of Peace

On May 8th, Cadbury Hall celebrated VE Day, marking 80 years of peace in our time. This significant occasion brought our community together to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many during World War II.

A Week of Reminiscence and Living History

In the week leading up to VE Day, we hosted a Week of Reminiscence, inviting residents to share their stories and experiences related to the war. Through personal anecdotes and memories, guests created a living history that enriched our understanding of the past. This week-long initiative allowed us to honour the legacy of those who fought for our freedom and to hear first-hand accounts that connect us to our heritage.

Our Celebrations

The festivities on VE Day included:

- Service of Remembrance: Many residents watched the national Service of Remembrance broadcast, paying tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of our veterans.

We celebrated by keeping an eye on the parade in London, where veterans and members of the military displayed their honour and pride in our shared history.

Residents listened attentively to the King’s speech, reflecting on the importance of remembrance and the values that uphold our peace today. At the evening concert on Horse Guards parade,

A Community BBQ: Our residents enjoyed a delicious BBQ featuring traditional British fare, fostering a lively atmosphere of camaraderie and connection.

Music & Entertainment: Uplifting music filled the air, adding to the joy as neighbours gathered to commemorate this momentous occasion.

 A Day of Reflection

While many celebrated, we also had quiet spaces available for residents who preferred to spend the day in reflection. This thoughtful gesture allowed individuals to honour the memories of loved ones and the sacrifices made for our freedom.

 Thank You!

VE Day is an important day for many of our residents and I feel privileged to be able to share it with them. We had a day full of fun and celebration, but also spent time remembering those who lost their lives fighting for our country. It was an amazing day full of remembrance and love and one that we will not forget for a long time.

Bonnie said it was lovely to spend the whole day with others and felt the atmosphere was excellent. End our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in and contributed to this memorable event. Your presence, stories, and shared experiences made our VE Day celebration at Cadbury Hall truly special.
