Activities at Bryn Ivor Lodge Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Eisteddfod

Residents from Bryn Ivor Lodge set up their very own Art Gallery to celebrate this year’s Eisteddfod. A local Welsh Poet delivered her poetry to be displayed alongside photography form Bryn Ivor kitchen assistant Keely and a display of handmade wooden boxes made by Activities Co-ordinator Anna. Copies paintings of famous Welsh artists together with a display of wooden Welsh spoons and crochet from children from local community was admired by all Residents, Staff and Visitors.

A visit from Alpacas

An amazing visit from two alpacas cheered the Residents of Bryn Ivor Lodge and children from local community. Alpacas Eric and Freddie- two cute alpacas stayed in Bryn Ivor Lodge garden for everyone to admire. Local community was invited to join the fun and several families turned up with their children which made the Residents enjoy the day even more! Afterwards the alpacas walked around the home and visited all Residents who stayed in their bedroom. Great day was had by all!

Gardening at Bryn Ivor

Our lovely Resident Lindsey picking the last carrots of the season. Here in Bryn Ivor Lodge we love gardening and several of our Residents are very keen gardeners. Throughout the warmer months we spend a lot of time in our Gardening Pod and when the weather gets chilly we have regular gardening sessions inside, getting ready for next season.

Pet Therapy

Pet therapy is proven to have a healing effect at people living with dementia. It lowers symptoms of depression and sadness and supports good mental health. Our Residents are visited regularly by various animals, but on this occasion we had a real guinea pig bonanza! A family of 4 guinea pigs visited our Nursing Memory Lane, we couldn’t get enough of cuddles!

Baking Club

The Great British Bake Off has nothing on us! We have some fantastic bakers in Bryn Ivor Lodge too! Our weekly Baking Club is producing delicious treats for everyone. It is important for our Residents to continue their hobbies and we support them in that every single day. The only disadvantage of that- our waistlines getting bigger!

Enjoying Talks

Here in Bryn Ivor Lodge our Residents enjoy a good talk. Throughout the month we invite several different speakers to keep our minds busy. We always learn new things, no matter the age! Recently we invited Gavin Jones, Community Engagement Officer from Newport County Council to give us a talk about history of Newport Transporter Bridge.

We were also visited by representatives of Menter Iaith Casnewydd- Newport Language Initiative to spend time with our Welsh speaking Residents. It was a joy to listen to them converse for over an hour in their native language! Diolch!
