Libraries in Scotland to offer cancer support

Libraries in Glasgow will be offering support and information to cancer sufferers.

Macmillan Cancer Support and Glasgow Life will work together to provide assistance on a local level, in a campaign that is thought to be the first in the UK.

Allan Cowie, Macmillan's general manager in Scotland, commented: "We are delighted to have made Glasgow the first place in the UK where everyone affected by cancer can get information and support in their local community.”

He went on to stress that the new system should cut down on the amount of time people have to wait to get access to helpful and supportive information.
Twenty five centres will open across the city over the course of the next year.

Services to be offered include confidential support, access to benefits and financial advice with assistance by a specialist advisor, access to counselling and opportunities to meet those in a similar position in a relaxing environment.

Set in beautiful countryside locations, many of Barchester homes are ideal destinations for respite stays.
