Westwood House Care Home in Sydenham

Westwood House is a purpose built care home located in the residential area of Upper Sydenham on Westwood Hill. We provide 24-hour nursing care alongside expert care for those, from the age of 40, who are chronically sick. We also offer respite  care. Our staff team are always happy to help and provide a good standard of care. We have our own visiting GP from a local practice who visits us on a weekly basis.

Dementia Care

Additionally, Westwood House has a dedicated Memory Lane Community that provides a safe, homely environment for people living with dementia, which has been designed following these guidelines ensuring the care we provide supports residents’ freedom of choice. We aim to maintain their life-skills, improving their self-esteem and helping them to maintain and develop their independence while they are living with us.

Staff undertake specialist dementia care training developed by our team of Dementia Care Specialists and academic partners, the Centre for Dementia Research at Leeds Beckett University. Together they ensure our training programmes are informed by the very latest thinking. We ensure that the people we support feel comfortable and safe in their surrounding environment, helping ensure they live life with dementia to the full.

Choosing a care home for a loved one or friend who may be experiencing dementia can be difficult and we have created a guide to showcase how we ‘Enrich the lives of people living with dementia’ in our care home.

Activities are an important part of our approach to care and support and include baking, gardening, arts and crafts and frequent outings. We are also able to offer complementary therapies to interested residents. We are also able to offer physiotherapy on a private basis on request.

We pride ourselves in giving a warm welcome to every one of our visitors and think you'll find we are  suited to meet your needs now and in the future.

Why not come along to see for yourself? If you would like to come and meet the team please do contact me and I will arrange a convenient time.

Types of care

Westwood House provides person-centred nursing care on the ground floor and residential care for those living with dementia in our Memory Lane community on the first floor. We understand that each resident has individual needs that we need to tailor our care to, so our services are designed to provide the very best for each of them, based on their personal requirements. We also aim to help them maintain as much independence as possible in their daily lives. In our latest CQC inspection we received a ‘Good’ outcome.

General Manager

Welcome to Westwood House. My name is Stella Bernatek and I am the General Manager here.

I trained as a Registered Nurse in the eighties and have had approximately 13 years NHS experience before entering the private care home sector.I am passionate about providing a good standard of care for elderly residents and have had 6 years as Registered Manager in the London Borough of Sutton.I led the team in achieving GSF status and we provided nursing for residents with Dementia,Challenging Behaviour, and palliative care.

I am very proud to be working with a great team. As a team we all strive to provide the best standard of care for our residents. Training is of great importance to us all and staff are able to access lots of training internally and externally. We were all very pleased with our CQC Inspection in May which awarded us a GOOD rating.

We like this home to have a friendly 'home from home' atmosphere and we welcome all visitors. We care for 43 residents in total, 20 with nursing needs who live on the ground floor and 23 residents on our Memory Lane Community on the first floor.
