Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rebecca Harrowing

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.

Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.

Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.

Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.

Life at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Virtual afternoon at the theatre

Residents across our services had a fantastic time enjoying the virtual screening of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. Frank Spencer’s comical misadventures had everyone laughing and it was wonderful to see so many happy faces.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and a special thanks to The Barn Theatre in the Cotswolds for bringing this stage adaptation of the beloved sitcom to our screens.

Harvest Festival & Crafts

We welcomed the change of seasons with a morning of baking cinnamon rolls and an afternoon of autumn crafts, making sock pumpkins, bunting and clay leaves.

This was to launch our food drive to collect non-perishable food items and baby foods for the Bearded Fishermen Charity. We will be collecting until the second week of October.

We were able to take a trip to the Bearded Fishermen headquarters and enjoy coffee with them after an enjoyable tour or the premises.

Armchair travels to Cornwall

We were able to enjoy a lovely day learning about this gorgeous county. Emma and Dawn our wonderful chefs even made Cornish Pasties for us. The highlight was a visit from a sea shanty group, The Caistorways. They entertained us with a variety of shanties, giving us the history and meaning of each of these songs.

They even learned a new song ‘Cornwall my Home’ just for us! It was a rousing afternoon with many residents requesting them to come and visit again.

Abi Flautist

It was a beautiful, relaxing afternoon as Abi entertained us with her flute. Abi has recently been accepted to be a reserve for the Liverpool Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, she is certainly incredibly talented playing such a variety of music from Telemann to Elvis! Our residents thought she was charming as she shared her passion with us.

Cornish Seal Sanctuary

A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!

Residents across our services loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well.

Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.

The Museum of Lincolnshire Life

Brian has lived in Lincoln for 50 years yet never visited The Museum of Lincolnshire Life until a visit with Tennyson Wharf this week. We were able to spend a few happy hours wandering the exhibitions. We all enjoyed the Victorian rooms and the agricultural displays. Keith had told us that there was much to see there and this surprised us all, we certainly need another visit to capture all that the museum has to offer.  Brian thoroughly enjoyed his visit and exclaimed “I just didn’t know it had so much packed in!” We finished off our visit with tea and coffee in the cafe.
