Activities at St Thomas Care Home

Our activities coordinator is dedicated to organising meaningful activities on an individual and group basis to fulfill the daily needs of our residents, as we understand how important mental and physical stimulation is for their wellbeing. Our activities are available to everyone who wants to take part and there is something different going on everyday. We often go out on day trips including visiting shopping centres, garden centres, evening meals at the local pubs, visits to local schools and also coffee mornings with other care homes. We have a wide range of entertainers that visit us at our home including musical therapists, Millers Ark Farm, pantomimes as well as our local salvation army and lots more. We encourage families to join us on trips out and also in home activities such as baking, arts and crafts, dancing and singing, we believe this is a great way for our residents to live an active and fun life here with us at St Thomas.

Life at St Thomas Care Home

Chocolate Making Session

Residents enjoyed several sessions with Cindy and Korrine from TLE Crafts making chocolates. These were then gift wrapped for the residents to give to their loved ones for Christmas. We are not sure that all the chocolates made it into the bags, but a great time was had by all.

Poppy Knitting

The residents have been busy knitting poppies under the guidance of the activity team and one of our relatives.

These poppies will be presented to the Flying Army Museum on Armistice Day, to then be added to a larger display at the Museum.

We were thrilled that some gentleman living at St Thomas also picked up the knitting needles and took part.

There was much laughter, reminiscence, tea and chocolate throughout the morning.

Green Fingers

Some of the residents have enjoyed taking part in the Gardening Club. Generally, this has involved tea, cake and quite a lot of mess. Now we all need to remember to water the seeds and watch them grow!

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Macmillan Coffee Morning

St Thomas took part in the Macmillan Coffee Morning. Staff brought in cakes, and the home opened its doors to visitors who sat in our beautiful chapel, enjoying coffee and cakes, and a nice chat with the team members. We managed to raise £53.00 for Macmillan.

Keeping Fit

Our residents enjoyed a session with Gfitness, where they took part in armchair exercises. Everyone had fun exercising to music, and there was also a lot of laughter, particularly when using the giant elastic bands!

Magic Table

Magic Table

St Thomas had a Magic Table installed recently. Magic tables are being used in care homes to stimulate and engage residents. The new devices are a special piece of technology designed to support residents living with dementia, to increase physical and social interactions, and most of all have fun!

The residents at St Thomas regularly use their magic table independently, in a group and with their families. There have been several football tournaments played, as well as quizzes completed and songs composed.
