Activities at Overslade House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.
At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.
We definitely have something for everyone!

Julie Bateman
Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.
I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.
I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!
Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

Life at Overslade House Care Home

Remembrance Day Commemoration
Residents at Overslade House watched the placing of wreaths at the cenotaph on Sunday morning and were entertained by Gemma and her sentimental war time journey in the afternoon.
Overslade House had a Remembrance Quiz supplied through Oomph Wellness too! Did you know Big Ben’s clock face numbers are 60cms high?
We had a service and hymns conducted by The Gift of Years Rugby. This was followed by a 2 minute silence and the unmistakable, wonderful sound of a Hurricane doing a fly past over our home.
Today, the Hurricane is rare, with just 15 airworthy examples in the world. Fewer than five more are likely to be restored in the next 10 years. Meanwhile there are about 45 Spitfires flying, with another 25 under restoration.
What a pleasure it was to see and it sounded amazing!
Residents created a lovely work of art with Creative Mojo remembering the animals lost during the war. A Remembrance Day poem was written by Overslade House and our reception was adorned with poppies!

Good Luck Dee!
After almost 26 years of continuous service at Overslade House Care Home in Rugby, Warwickshire a much-loved Carer Team Leader, Dee Langham has decided to retire.
Staff and residents at the home sent Dee off in style with flowers and presents to thank her for many years of dedication. Staff got together and held a party for Dee with food prepared by Head Chef, Corey Leake. Everyone at the home has very fond memories of Dee and she will be sadly missed.
During her time at Overslade House, Dee has worked her way up from being a Care Assistant to Team Leader.
Dee said: “Overslade House Care Home is like a family to me and although I’m looking forward to retirement, I’m really going to miss everyone here so much, I have to say I would not have stayed 26 years if it wasn’t for the fact I was so happy here!”
Violeta Baesu, Senior General Manager at Overslade House said: “Dee is one of those people who was born to care for others – she has such a huge heart and was greatly loved by the individuals living at Overslade House Care Home. She was an inspiration to her colleagues and we will all miss her. We wish her all the best!”

Virtual Theatre Event Overslade House
Here at Overslade House, residents spent a lovely afternoon with family and friends. They enjoyed virtual live theatre from the Barn Theatre in the Cotswolds, with a performance of 'Some Mothers Do Ave Em'.
Residents enjoyed fresh popcorn and tasty ice cream during the interval and there were lots of belly laughs. The actors playing Frank Spencer and Betty were absolutely brilliant!!
Keep your eyes peeled for more of these events soon...we already know we have A Christmas Carol from the Old Vic Theatre London in December and we can't wait!

Alpaca visit for World Animal Day
World Animal Day is celebrated yearly on October 4th to align with the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology and animals. So here at Overslade, we decided to arrange a little visit to the home.
Residents here at Overslade were thrilled to meet the The Alpaca Pals again, who stayed with us for a whole 2 hours.
The Alpacas visited residents in their rooms and lounges and some of the residents were able to feed carrots to Dante, the cream Alpaca and Hagan, the chocolate Alpaca.
The Alpacas behaved impeccably again and we're already looking forward to the next visit!

The Seal of approval - Care home residents visit the Cornish Seal Sanctuary
Staff and residents Overslade House, were treated to a virtual tour of the wonderful world of The Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek, Cornwall, hosted by Education & Guest Experience Supervisor, Rebecca Langston. Residents in Memory Lane enjoyed creating their own seals with pebble painting and colouring and learning interesting facts about seals.
The Cornish Seal Sanctuary is a charity that rescues seal pups in need of help from around the Cornish coastline and nurses them back to health, ready to rehabilitate them back into the wild. Their mission is to provide expert care for sick, injured or distressed seals or other marine creatures in need of help who are found around our shores. The Sanctuary strives to release all animals back into their natural environment when they are back to full health, or to provide a permanent home and ongoing care for those that cannot be released.
Our residents loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well. A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event everyone truly enjoyed the experience!
