Activities at Newton House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Read our brochure ‘Life-enriching activities’ for more information about life in our care homes.

Celebrating life at Newton House Care Home
Rocking all over the world!
It’s only Rock N Roll, but we like it…….
Such a fun time had for our Rock N Roll themed day! Residents started the day off with a fun seated-themed workout before a delicious lunch. After lunch, we all united together to welcome the super talented & absolutely fabulous duo that is KJ & The Catt!
Not only do they bring so much fun, they deliver the most person-centred performance that brings such a sense of belonging to each and every person in the room. We had toe tapping, hand clapping and a glorious performance from Resident Mike which made our hearts so full.
A beautiful day for our beautiful residents!
20 years long service award
We have been celebrating the wonderful Elena for receiving her 20-year-long service award at Newton House.
Elena works as part of our fantastic kitchen team as second Chef, and is well known for her beautiful smile, compassion and heart of pure gold.
Always willing to help others, her beautiful caring nature towards all residents and ensuring they feel listened to makes her a special person and an absolute pleasure to work with.
Thank you so much, Elena, for 20 years of hard work, dedication and commitment to not only Newton House but to Barchester Healthcare.
We are so proud of her!
Furry friends and happy hearts!
We were absolutely delighted to welcome back our furry friends from Michelle's Animal Therapy & Petting Party.
Residents couldn’t wait to get cuddles from Diego the chihuahua, Mitzi the shitzhu, Boots the cat, Oakley the rabbit, and many more friends! It’s always such a pleasure seeing the animals and our hearts are full from seeing how much joy their visits bring to our wonderful residents.
The beautiful animals visited residents around the home and made some very beautiful and precious memories to those nursed in bed.
We carried on the animal theme throughout the day with an afternoon of virtual horse racing. Residents gathered in the coffee lounge to place their bets, and Brian ended up taking the trophy with the most winnings.
Sound Lincs Dementia Choir
Residents had the pleasure of visiting the incredible monthly Dementia Choir at Fulbeck Village Hall.
After breakfast, we hopped onto the minibus and enjoyed the beautiful scenic views as we headed to Fulbeck.
It’s always a delight to visit and be part of this wonderful event, from the minute we arrived we were warmly welcomed and provided with delicious refreshments.
Jan said “What a splendid morning”, whilst Brian said “I’ve been looking forward to this all week, it’s been brilliant”
We’re already looking forward to our next visit
Music and singing is such a beautiful way of not only creating magical moments , but helping to bring back magical memories too.

Home celebrate 10-years of service
One of our Care Assistants has received a prestigious 10-Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years.
Saru Dahl, now Care Assistant at the homes Memory Lane community, started at Barchester in June 2015 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Mental Health Day
The 10th October is known as World Mental Health Day – the result of a global advocacy and awareness program started by the World Federation for mental health in 1992.
Not only did we dedicate our life enrichment programme to this day, but we also welcomed the incredible Maria-Ilinca & James from the NHS Talking Therapies for residents & staff to explore their services & see what help is available. It was wonderful to have our fabulous guests join in with our Newton House Choir, which was followed by their monthly residents meeting.
A great opportunity to come together and discuss life at Newton House. Music is so good for the soul, so after lunch our music theme continued as we welcomed the super talented Alison Jay for an afternoon of live musical entertainment.
The day had been all about togetherness, promoting conversations that bring a great sense of belonging and empowerment, and music to increase wellbeing whilst bringing joy and happiness.
We would also like to say a huge thank you to our good friend Rob Dixon for the beautiful donation of flowers, which were handed out to staff, family members and the lovely Maria-Ilinca to provide feelings of joy on this important day.
Wedding bells ringing at Newton House
Not only did the beautiful Joan celebrate her very special 90th birthday, but in the same week she celebrated her granddon's special day as he married the woman of his dreams.
Starting the day in style, Joan enjoyed a delicious glass of wine whilst being pampered and preparing for the special day ahead.
It was a beautiful scenic drive to the most stunning venue and Joan enjoyed the most spectacular day!
On behalf of Newton House, we would like to say huge congratulations to the newlyweds, and wish them all the love and happiness as they embark on marital life.
We love being able to make dreams come true for our residents at Newton House and ensure that they get to celebrate life every day.
Bank holiday bonanza!
What a fabulous start to a brand-new week at Newton House! Celebrating the Bank Holiday with fun, games and laughter!
Residents enjoyed a hive of activities throughout the day, before heading outdoors this afternoon for our Bank Holiday Garden Party.
With music, games, refreshments and being joined by the Newton House Tortoise ‘Koopa’ all individually contributed to a successful and enjoyable afternoon!
Resident Ambassador Beryl said, ‘Thank you for a splendid afternoon, I couldn’t have asked for a more enjoyable time’.
The Story Of Boots Memory Box
We were delighted when the wonderful Michelle, from our local Boots store visited us with their beautiful memory box.
Boots, have been working with Victoria Tischler, Professor of Behavioural Science at the University of Surrey, to develop a project in care homes providing items from the Boots Archive to stimulate interesting discussions and promote positive feelings.
The use of visual prompts to stimulate good conversations is encouraged by the Social Care Institute for Excellence.
The items were inspired by shopping trips to Boots over the years, and include many things that our residents may have been in contact with at different points in their lives.
We have really enjoyed using this wonderfully created resource over recent weeks and are extremely grateful to have been chosen to share this with residents living at Newton House.
Listening to beautiful stories and sharing their experiences and memories has been simply wonderful.
Visiting Grantham Art Gallery
Ladies from Newton House ventured out on the minibus to our local Art Gallery, to explore some of the fabulous work by the amazing artists in our town.
The ladies couldn’t believe what incredible work was showcased there, and Jean said “everywhere that you look, something different captures your eye.” It was wonderful to see the ladies enjoying browsing the gallery before sitting down to enjoy refreshments, an introductory demonstration to crochet and a good old natter!
We would like to say a huge thank you for your great hospitality, and we are looking forward to visiting again. Whilst we were busy at the Gallery, our fabulous residents at Newton House enjoyed their weekly game of bingo! The fun just never ends!
Making wishes come true
Since moving into Newton House, resident Marilyn would often speak about her wonderful memories of the Peak District and how she wishes she could go again one last time. As part of our ‘Wish Initiative’, we just instantly knew we had to make this dream become a reality for the lovely Marilyn, and give her some more wonderful memories that she can cherish.
After planning our route, we all jumped on the bus, ready for a very exciting day! With the most beautiful scenic drive through Woodhead Pass and Snake Pass, Marilyn was beyond happy taking in all the nature, and was also excited to point out all the places she had visited before! We made sure to take a stop at the Derwent Water tourist centre for a nice cup of tea and a picnic whilst taking in the picturesque sights.
We were very delighted to be able to create this special day for Marilyn, and if you have a loved one residing at Newton House who has a wish they would like to make happen, please get in touch with the activities team.
Welcome to the carnival
Roll up…roll up and welcome to a circus spectacular!
What a fun & fabulous way to start the week with a circus-themed day at Newton House! Residents joined together for a morning of fancy dress, hook a duck, ball games and lots more as the circus celebrations began.
After the circus games, we delved into the Oomph Wellness ‘A trip to the circus’ activity pack, which was filled with fun activities, word searches and puzzles! To complete our circus-themed day, after lunch, residents sat back and relaxed to watch ‘The Greatest Showman’ and, of course, it’s not a proper movie matinée without some delicious popcorn!
Our themed events always bring so much joy and excitement across the home and, of course, lots of laughs at our fancy dress!
Ready, steady, bake!
Our wonderful residents enjoyed whipping up some delicious treats in a fun baking session!!
With everyone working together as a team to bake a yummy chocolate cake for us all to enjoy in the afternoon with a nice cup of tea. The baking fun didn’t stop there, as residents also decided to get creative with some fun biscuit decorating!! Resident Jean was delighted to take the lead and be crowned the master baker, and a handshake from Paul Hollywood would definitely be deserved!!
Celebrating World Chocolate Day
What a deliciously sweet way to start a brand new week at Newton House, celebrating the most scrumptious day on the calendar, ‘world chocolate day’!
Residents enjoyed a fun game of ‘Blind fold chocolate tasting’ and it’s fair to say they definitely know their chocolate!
With Maltesers being the most popular, and surprising to some the bounty came a close second.
Of course, we had to try a few first to make sure that they were ok!
A huge thankyou to the Barchester media team, for supplying the yummy chocolates! A prize for our award winning story on Facebook with our beautiful Vonnys dream.
The chocolates went down a treat as we enjoyed such a tasty themed activity!
Celebrating Pride month!
We had so much fun as we celebrated the month of Pride.
Welcoming the most incredibly talented duo KJ & The Catt, for an afternoon of partying & laughter. Their person centred approach always warms our hearts, as does seeing just how much our amazing residents love their visits.
In true Newton House style, it wasn’t long before residents were moving and grooving & celebrating life!
Mike was delighted to join in with The Catt for a splendid duo, and resident ambassador Janet, was in her element as she dusted of her dancing shoes and hit the dance floor!
It was so wonderful to see our fabulous care team join in the fun & really enjoy the atmosphere.
Another wonderful day, celebrating life at Newton House!
