Activities at Newlands Care Home

Activities within our home are tailored around the requests of residents. Our Activities Coordinator holds regular activity meetings to seek new thoughts and ideas. The home is committed to offering a varied range of activities for all residents, from hand and nail care to gardening for those who have green fingers. We carry out reminiscence activities, including planned entertainment days, bringing the seaside into the home or dance hall meetings.

We hold strong links with the community, especially schools and local children's sports teams, who visit the home to provide entertainment and engagement with residents. We also maintain relationships with the church to ensure that residents’ spiritual beliefs are met. Externally, we have our own minibus, and outings are planned and carried out, again tailored to residents’ preferences, whether it be shopping, visits to the local pub, tea and coffee afternoons, or a scenic day out in the lakes and lovely countryside that surrounds us. However, the fun does not stop at the residents we care for, but we also hold events to involve family and the wider community.

Life at Newlands Care Home

World Cocktail Day

Residents enjoyed trying a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails for this year’s World Cocktail Day with Pina Colada as a clear favourite!

FA Cup Final

Today, we were over the moon as we all enjoyed watching the FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Liverpool at Wembley Stadium in London.  The home has been decked out with flags and our residents have been enjoying all the action, and cheering for their favourite team.  We love watching football and had a brilliant time getting together to watch the match with cold beers and delicious snacks.

International Nurses Day

Today we celebrated the anniversary of the birth of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale, also known as International Nurses Day, by acknowledging our dedicated and hard-working nurses.

To mark the occasion and to say thank you, our talented chef prepared delicious treats and refreshments for everyone to enjoy.

We received numerous cards and recorded thank you messages from relatives, friends and the local community, which were displayed around the home and shared with the team to make the day extra special.

National Gardening Week

Residents and staff have enjoyed watching our seeds grow and getting their hands dirty. This week has been perfect for potting on our seedlings even if it was a bit chilly outside! Hopefully with some good weather we can plant out the seedlings into the veggie patch soon!

Conversations by the Pond

We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.

Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.

The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.

Van Gogh makes an impression

Vincent was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history. To mark what would have been his birthday, our residents got involved in painting some of his masterpieces.
