Activities at Hugh Myddelton House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Remembering Sultan

A communal prayer was conducted for one of our residents who passed away this month, Sultan Ibrahim. Sultan was an incredible beautiful soul who would make everyone’s day by spreading great joy. She had such great humour and was incredibly friendly to everyone who came across her. Sultan joined in April of 2018, wanting to continue her journey of life with us which was such a great honour. Her family, having been with us for so long, decided to conduct the funeral prayer for Sultan here at Hugh Myddelton as this was her second home. Being a welcoming multicultural home, we celebrate all at Hugh Myddelton hence we were privileged to do so.

The public turnout was incredibly touching as everyone recounted their stories of how Sultan impacted our lives in such a meaningful way.

Her son, Ali, says “Thank you to everyone for looking after my mother. She spent her last five years in this home and that is why I chose to do her prayer here as this was her second home. “

The General Manager of Hugh Myddelton says “It is a great honour to host the funeral prayer here. We will always remember her and her bouncy personality. She was the great joy of our home.”

Our lovely carer Noureza who spent a lot of time looking after Sultan throughout the years says “I will always remember her as a lovely and funny person. She will always be in our hearts”.

She would have turned 97 last week unfortunately it was not meant to be.

The memory cafe is supported by Rotary Club of Southgate, London and Adrian and everyone made us feel very welcome. It was great to meet other from our local community. Residents enjoyed a lovely lunch and then took part in a word association game and a quiz which was great fun. The afternoon ended with entertainment and we sang along to the live music.

Rosa's Walk for Hope to Raise Money for Charity

Staff and residents from Hugh Myddelton House care home in Southgate are fundraising to support their resident ambassador Rosa to raise money for MS society.

We completed the walk on Saturday 9th September on the hottest day of the year. The sun was out as well as the orange army, we certainly made an impact with the colour and also the helium filled balloons.

We had fantastic day, raising awareness and money also handing out leaflets. The home and Rosa raised a whopping £2880.16

The camaraderie amongst the group was to be admired with lots of laughter and goodwill.

Residents Ambassador, Rosa Bartolino, comments: I would like to thank you for your continual support, and I would also mention that Barchester health care instrumental with their support.
