Santa Puts Smile on Children's Faces

Cherry Blossom Manor in Bramley made Christmas a little bit more magical for their residents this year, by transforming part of the home into a ‘Santa’s grotto’ where children from the local community were invited along to join the festive cheer on Saturday 7th .

Santa, who was played by care home Lifestyle Lead Angela MacQuillin, grew her beard especially for the occasion and gave out gifts to all the children who came along to spend time with Santa and his Elves.

There was even a surprise visit from Anna all the way from Arendelle, and music from local Army Cadet Band.

Staff and residents at Cherry Blossom love celebrating the festive season and were excited about welcoming the local community to join in the fun.

Resident Ambassador Peggy Butcher said “What a magical day. Everyone was smiling and laughing, really getting into the Christmas spirit. It’s always lovely to be joined by local children here at Cherry Blossom and I don’t know who enjoyed it more, the children or us!”

The home is opening their doors again for an event on Wednesday 18th December to welcome isolated older people to join them for a tasty Christmas lunch. This is part of an initiative aimed at tackling loneliness in the community called ‘Don’t Dine Alone’

If you or someone you know would like to come along and enjoy a free meal in good company, please contact the home on 01256 886436 to find out more.

Maintenance Champion

Bogdan Opar, Maintenance Manager at Cherry Blossom Manor, was recently crowned as the national winner of the Maintenance Champion of the Year category at the 2019 Barchester Care Awards on 3rd of October.

Mark Bennett said of Bogdan when announcing the winner that “Bogdan clearly enjoys his job and this is reflected in his enthusiasm and work ethic. Nothing is too much trouble for Bogdan and he can be relied upon to complete whatever task is asked of him, professionally and quickly. The well-being of the residents is his prime motivation and the number of nominations he has received from residents and their families is testament to his hard work and the high esteem he is held in.”

Bogdan said of his win that, “I am very proud, and very honoured to be receiving this award. We work hard here at our home with a focus on the people we care for, and not for accolades, but it really is very special to be recognised in this way.”
