What our families say: Cherry Blossom Manor Care Home
24 November 2020View the report
"My wife was a resident at Cherry Blossom Manor for 2 weeks in June for respite care. The home was chosen as my son and daughter live nearby and are able to visit. My dealings with management and staff was efficient, helpful, cheerful and friendly. I was most impressed with the care and professionalism of the nurse and felt my wife was in excellent hands to cope with my wife's dementia and ensure her safety and care. I was able to go away relaxed, and my wife settled well. I am unable to comment on facilities, food and activities as I was not there - my wife is unable to comment in any meaningful way."

"Outstanding care provided by all the staff. Staff have unique insight into my husband's condition and they are superb advocates for him, especially when assessments are needed. All the staff provide 24-hour care and supervision for him. He is now safe and I have peace of mind. At home, I was worried he would have a catastrophic accident. You all keep my husband safe and well."

"I have a room visit booked today. I arrived in time, but no one is available when the "reception" button is pressed? Fortunately, I know how to do the lateral flow test without a member of staff letting me know how. Over a number of pod visits and via talking with "our" resident my genuine opinion is there are an insufficient number of carers available at the home. "Our" resident pay something over £1,200 per week for "poor" care. Fortunately, we live nearby - is why we chose this home - so can bring small items like a box of tissues or napkins, however, surely within the context of this £1,200 per week - £3 for a box of Kleenex is pretty much insignificant? This is about the "management", not the carers themselves. No one to let me in, no one to let me out."

"Barchester Cherry Blossom Manor has become my sanctuary and given me piece of mind, from when my husband came to need their care to keep him safe, healthy and well. He has twenty four hour care and since January 2021, he has become a full time resident . All the staff have demonstrated the upmost professional, social and psychological skills when dealing with him. My husband is a younger resident with a challenging diagnosis which at times can lead to challenging situations and this has resulted in all the staff being aware of his needs and using coping strategies to help him and themselves manage his twenty four hour care. In addition to this, Barchester Cherry Blossom Manor has dealt with restrictions due to the Covid-19 crisis and also managed me who was desperate to see my husband. The staff are very understanding of daily telephone calls and always go out of their way to keep me informed of any developments or changes in his condition. I cannot express my high regard and respect for this home. Barchester Cherry Blossom Manor, you are the best!"

"As a family the pandemic brought significant change including the need for dad to be moved into nursing care due to his needs and for his safety. The care that has provided has been second to none and the attention provided by the staffing team in an ever-evolving situation due to my dads complex needs have been praised by both ourselves (me and mum) but also by his medical team. Recently we also had a lengthy CHC meeting which the care practitioner attended. Her knowledge of my dad, awareness of his care and nursing needs alongside the risks despite him only having moved in during January 2021 was in-depth and reassured us as a family that he is in very good, caring and knowledgeable hands. She has been a source of much support and comfort during these times and has absolutely advocated for my dad and supported us as a family and we are very grateful. The whole Cherry Blossom team have gone out of their way to be supportive and we would highly recommend!"

"Since December 2020 when my father was first admitted here, I have been utterly amazed at the patience of all the staff caring for Dad. They are all so friendly and very caring and excellent at their job. The food and facilities are very good too. I think Dad is getting the best possible care anyone could wish for. Dementia is particularly difficult to deal with and the whole family is very grateful to you."

It is a beautiful place, more like a five-star hotel. Thank you to all the staff for making Mum's time with you a very happy one! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Cherry Blossom Manor to anyone. Thank you again for all your kindness."

They kept us well informed me my cousin's state a were sympathetic concerning her and our needs. We were informed almost immediately when she died and facilitated the necessary steps to be taken we didn't visit the home."

"From the moment of having POA of my nan, I have complete trust in Cherry Blossom and all the staff. The communication is fantastic. My nan loves her environment and has always spoken highly of her home and second family. Although my nan's needs have changed, I know she is still well looked after, communication via phone, email, Zoom and post continues to reassure me and photos show me that, even in these difficult Covid times, nothing changes."

"The relief of coming to Cherry Blossom Manor after a long time of struggling with back pain and general uselessness was indescribable. To be welcomed and looked after, caring and friendly willing people was like a dream come true. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them and the comfortable room with its own ensuite was like a dream come true. For my daughters who are far away knowing I am being so well cared for has been a huge relief. Thank you."

"Generally, care is good, residents are clean and well-fed. Little things are missed ensuring hair is well brushed as residents like it is hit and miss. Clothes tend to look 'thrown on' in those who are very dependent. My own relative has complained regularly over 4 years that night staff are rough in their handling (no hint of maliciousness) oral care is poor. The staff deserve a monetary bonus for containing the one case of Covid-19 and preventing any external infection entering 1st class."

"During the lockdown, it was easy to book a pm telephone call to my friend, which reassured us both. later, in good weather, this home had a beautiful garden for us to book a distance meeting. I now look forward to the activities coordinator to write 'dictated shopping' from my friend, in the stamped, addressed envelope I left today."

"From the minute I walked into Cherry Blossom I knew if my mum had to go into a care home it would be this one, you feel the warmth of the staff, they are amazing, nothing ever is too much trouble. They treated my mum with love, care and dignity, they gave me my mum back, I can never thank them enough. They told me they treat the residents like family and they really do. Cherry Blossom should be a 'model' for the perfect home."

"I really cannot praise Cherry Blossom enough. There are not enough words to say how wonderful this place has been for my Dad in the final months of his life. Both myself and my Dad have been treated with the utmost respect, kindness, love and dignity. The staff have all been amazing. His room and bed made a perfect haven and all of his needs have been attended to without delay. If I ever find myself needing care then this is the place I would choose to be. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

"After a poor experience from another care home provider, we contacted Cherry Blossom Manor. They reassured us that they could meet Dad's needs and that whatever happened they could manage. They were true to their word. He spent six months at Cherry Blossom Manor and settled in quickly. The standards of care are exceptional. There is a very relaxed feeling to the care home and the staff are very friendly with nothing being too much trouble. Unfortunately, Dad passed away recently. We asked that CBM manage his needs as he did not want to go to hospital unless absolutely unavoidable. Throughout his final days, the nursing team were amazing along with all of the staff team. Not only did they give wonderful care to Dad but they were also very supportive to his family. I would highly recommend CBM."

Thank you all so much!"

"My father was transferred to Cherry Blossom from the hospital as he had suffered a bleed on the brain and other injuries in his previous care home. Immediately I entered this home I knew it was the correct choice for Dad. This home is beautifully kept. Staff in all departments clearly care for residents and families. There is a caring atmosphere and as I live far away it is a weight off my mind knowing Dad is in safe hands."

"My father arrived at Cherry Blossom Manor at very short notice in April 2019, he has late-stage vascular dementia. After the initial settling in, issues he has now established a simple daily routine and seems content with his new life/home at Cherry Blossom Manor. He has made friends with other residents, joined in sing-a-longs and has been on a day trip. There are other regular daily activities he has yet to sample. The friendly staff are always on hand to talk to him and help with day to day tasks such as washing/shaving/dressing/eating hi meals. He is well thought of by the staff who look after him. I am happy my father is in a safe and caring environment and am pleased with the level of care he is currently receiving."

"Both my father and my mother moved into Cherry Blossom Manor in January 2018. My mother suffers from dementia and my father has vascular Dementia following a brain haemorrhage. My father recently passed away and the general care and the nursing care he received at Cherry Blossom Manor was excellent, particularly in his last few days. Likewise, the care my mother receives is excellent, due to the dementia, she is anxious a lot of the time and forgets that my father has died. The carers do a good job of keeping her as calm as possible."

Forgot to give prescription protein drink until I mentioned this plus all of the above was in his notes for staff to read. Once I had a talk with the staff and manager on day 3, all was sorted. "I enjoyed the room with a wet room but the latter was a bit small. The room was well decorated; there were more activities available, though I was unable to participate due to having a urinary infection and being bedbound for 5 days. Generally, the staff were caring and thoughtful. I had some concern when my tablets were found on the floor and table (3). Unfortunately, after returning home I have been admitted to hospital with blood clots in my lungs and heart, possibly brought on by being immobile during my infection."

"I know that my husband would join me in saying a huge thank you for the wonderful surprise on celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary (I came with my usual cheese sandwich!). The balloons are very happy standing in the living room, the flowers and cards also. The cake was delicious and so was the lunch (unexpected but lovely) and despite being diabetic, my sugar level was normal so what turned out to be a lovely day to see turned out to be a day to remember. Thank you all once again. What lovely people you are."

"We found the staff professional, approachable and compassionate at all times when it came to looking after the needs of my stepmother, making a home away from home. The entertainment and the hairdresser helped to provide a variety to make the stay a good one. The gardens are well maintained, full of flowers providing a delightful, peaceful place to sit. The place was always clean and tidy, the rooms are modern and cheerful and the meals provided were of a very high standard. The Café provided a really nice break from the room. This was always well stocked with yummy cakes and drinks."

"I came to visit my grandmother on Sunday 15/7/18. As usual, carers were very polite, my nan was well presented and seemed in a good mood. I stayed with my Nan whilst she had her lunch, which she usually enjoys very much. The head chef here is great and always very accommodating towards my nan's needs and requests. However, this Sunday my nan was very disheartened at lunchtime. The pork was very tough, which I was shocked at as it’s usually very soft, the mash was like water and when I questioned what was going on as the food is normally great, I was told a new chef had been taken on board. I hope he is receiving adequate training as to me and to my nan it didn’t seem like he knew how to cook correctly for the elderly. I really hope this is sorted as my nan is very happy at Cherry and I am also happy with the care she receives. This is the first time we have had any issue at Cherry and I hope now it’s been addressed that it won’t be a regular thing. Apart from that, thumbs up to all the staff."

"There never seems to be sufficient care staff to deal with the morning duties, like getting out of bed and washing/dressing. It is understood that the reason is frequent staff sickness of 20 - 40 per cent which may be due to lack of motivation and commitment to service. Management is never seen around the facility checking on status - but always within the office. Some care staff/nurses are very good and attentive."

"I find Cherry Blossom Manor provides a safe and comfortable environment for my mother. Communication with her care teams is very good and I am satisfied that her current care needs are being met. Other members of my family, as well as Mum's friends, are of the same opinion."

"My dad has been at Cherry Blossom Manor for a year. He feels happy, well cared for and safe in this home. He enjoys regular visits from his 'beautiful wife', who he just said to me that he has had a 'wonderful life' with my mum and although they now have to live apart, his wife brightens his day when she visits Dad and we are pleased with the kind, loving, cheerful care Dad has received."

"We just wanted to express our happiness you gave our mum and us on her 100th birthday. From the chefs and carers to the nursed and management, you all made it a wonderful day! In particular, your organisation of the short service was especially memorable."

"Although our dear dad/grandad was not in the home for very long before he passed away, he was cared for well and felt that he had settled in well. We visited most weekends en masse, daughter, grandchildren, great-granddaughter and our dog whom Dad was immensely fond of and were always made to feel so welcome. We enjoyed having lunch with him and nothing seemed to be too much trouble and staff always greeted us with a smile. Thank you."

"We have found that Cherry Blossom Manor is a very good care home. The carers are all positive and very cheerful and they show respect to the residents. We have spoken to the carers on many occasions, they are very helpful! They often have comforting words when things can be a little stressful and upsetting. They always make time to speak to you. We have also heard that the food is very good! Compliments to the chef!"

"Dad was extremely ill on Christmas Eve and if it was not for the staff that day he would not have made it to the doctor. Well, Dad is still here and receives excellent care from the staff. Two, in particular, are a real credit to the home and I hope they are treated accordingly."

"The care and attention that all members of staff give to my in-laws is second to none. The encouragement to assist and ensure a quality of life from all staff to my mother-in-law has given her confidence to join in and my father-in-law is encouraged to play the piano and enjoy films."

"My stay here I can only judge from my own physical condition at that time. The accommodation was excellent but limited by the abilities of the other occupants. This reduced the moral chance of forming social contact with other people. Very good but very limited choice owing to few people in a similar situation to my own."
Douglas Ocarehome.co.uk rating: 4.58 out of 5
"This care home manages my mother's personal needs 24/7 including regular services and nursing. My mother is treated in many kind ways by all the staff and has maintained a good relationship with ourselves in order to cooperate on timing, visits and events. I have encouraged the home to create a musical extension to their regular timetable and help by playing the piano which is appreciated as well. The Christmas Party this year was well organised and the standard of fun exceptional. I have participated in regular events about dementia training. The communication between different layers of staffing could be improved sometimes when my outsider view is challenged but I do not hold this as a severe criticism."

"Every time I visit, the place is always clean and tidy, with the staff looking after all efficiently and they seem caring. Most times when I come, it is the end of lunch, so there is always clearing, helping the last to finish. My mum's room is always clean and tidy, and I am impressed generally with the lack of 'dirty' smells - overall good!"

"I can honestly say that I could not have hoped for better care for my dad in his last year of life. The care, companionship and support shown to be given to my dad was beyond my expectations. My appreciation to all the staff that cared for him, cannot be extended enough to show how much it means to me and meant to my dad. Thank you."

"My mother moved to Cherry Blossom Manor 8 weeks ago. I was very impressed with the caring and efficient way in which she was welcomed and integrated into her new surroundings. All the staff are kind and approachable and nothing is too much trouble. Despite her dementia, they have made great efforts to get to know Mum and understand her, her likes and dislikes. The surroundings are all very pleasant and there is a happy atmosphere on Memory Lane."

"Mum became a resident at the start of 2017. We found the management and staff to be polite and very helpful in getting Mum settled in and putting our minds at ease. My family and I feel confident we have made the right choice for Mum as the management and staff continue to be very helpful and supportive. We feel Cherry Blossom Manor to be a nice quiet and relaxing environment when we visit."

"We've been very pleased with Cherry Blossom since Mum came here in May 2016. Since the manager came in January we have been impressed with any changes, and in May the manager was extremely helpful with the arrangements for Mum to attend her grandson's wedding. All the staff and carers have been so lovely and helpful. We have another wedding in August to sort! Food is the only thing we would mark down a bit but mum is very fussy!"

"Generally excellent. Sometimes things become a little disorganised, mostly caused by staffing problems. Food is passable. Portions are quite small, except salads which are good but excellent when they have remembered to order onions and are quite large."

"The care home is very nicely run and feeling of a home from home. The only issue is the cleaning in rooms could be better and high class. So if they could address this it would add to people's stay - we have added an Air purifier to help the air be clean and fresh."

"The whole experience of moving mum from another home after 2 weeks was a positive one. We arrived without an appointment late one Sunday night to be shown around the home. The move was made easy and stress-free by the staff including Manager, Admin, Reception and Matron. A warm welcome, caring staff and lots of TLC has helped my mother to settle well and now stay permanently at Cherry Blossom. The atmosphere is friendly, caring and most of the staff are brilliant. Thank you, Cherry Blossom."

"First I must state that the staff are excellent and it is heart warming to see the interaction between staff and residents. I have visited for over 2 years, food is good and residents have a certain amount of freedom which is good. I'm not there 24-7 but sometimes wish there were more staff for one to one time. Thank you."
