York to hold art sale for multiple sclerosis charity

Art lovers have been urged to take the opportunity to get hold of a unique piece of work, while supporting a multiple sclerosis charity in the process.

The Secret Art Show is being held by the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Trust in York, with a number of household names selling their own sketches and paintings, the York Press reports.

More than 600 12cm x 12cm artworks will be on sale for £25 each. The catch is that each piece is signed on the back, but the buyer will not know the identity of the artist until the end of the three-week show.

Those demonstrating their artistic prowess include Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu, playwright Alan Bennett and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

"I'm participating because I think initiatives to raise awareness that involve creativity like this always provide an added dimension to fund-raising," Mr Llewelyn-Bowen told the publication.

According to research from the MS Society, more than 100,000 people in the UK are currently living with the condition.
