Teenager whose heart stopped wants to help others

A 17-year-old whose heart stopped for seven minutes has said it is now his mission to help others with heart conditions.

Dan Edwards collapsed while running up stairs at Worcester College of Technology in September last year and, like in the case with former Bolton Wanderers footballer Fabrice Muamba, had to be revived by paramedics.

Since the near-fatal incident, the teenager has taken to charitable events with gusto.

"I want to give something back, to try to return the favour to charities so other people don’t have to go through it and so people can learn more about it," he told the Worcester News.

Mr Edwards will be taking part in the Worcester Heart Walk to raise money for the British Heart Foundation next Sunday (March 24th) and he has already been named as a local hero by the new Latimer Court care home in the city.

That particular accolade included him being presented with a cheque for £200 towards Arrhythmia Alliance from Barchester Healthcare.
