New dementia support group in Cheshire

A new support group for people with dementia and those who look after them has been launched in Winsford, Cheshire.

The Cheshire West branch of the Alzheimer's Society is opening a monthly cafe, beginning on July 28th, to provide an informal environment where people affected by the condition can get together and support one another, the Winsford Guardian reports.

As well as being able to talk to others and enjoy refreshments, visitors will have access to the Alzheimer's Society's dementia support workers.

"Alzheimer's Society support groups can help prevent feelings of loneliness and isolation by giving people affected by dementia an opportunity to speak to other people in similar situations as themselves," the society's local support services manager Carolyn Rowberry told the newspaper.

It follows news in the Bridgwater Mercury that health professionals in the Somerset town have come together to develop a better understanding of dementia.
