New dementia facility opens in Southgate

Guests were given a tour of the Memory Lane Community, a unique environment which is designed to encourage active and independent living. Visitors and residents were treated to a cream tea and refreshments prepared by the home’s catering team.

The new facilities were designed by Barchester’s very own Interior Design team. Part of the team’s remit is to continually develop methods that improve the quality of surroundings for both residents with different types of dementia as well as the staff that care for them.

After the tour, Dr Horwood, said: "The provision of excellent care can make a huge difference to the quality of life of a person with dementia. Care homes such as this, that follow the philosophy of person-centred care, can bring out the best in the people with dementia who live there."

Annie Lampard, General Manager at the home, said: “I am so pleased with the finished article and it is great that we can now offer much needed quality residential dementia care to the local community.”

Annie then presented Dr Horwood with a donation to go towards ‘Singing for the Brain’, a service provided by the Alzheimer’s Society, which provides a way for people with dementia, along with their carers, to express themselves and socialise with others in a fun and supportive group

Hugh Myddelton House already provides first-class 24-hour nursing care for older people alongside expert care for people with a physical disability or those who have MS or Huntington's.
