National Continence Awareness Week to highlight bladder and bowel issues

Bladder and bowel problems, experienced by many using home care, are to be highlighted during National Continence Awareness Week.

Gill Turton, communications manager for the Bladder and Bowel Foundation, said that awareness week, which is running from September 19th to the 25th, will focus on treatments available for the condition and the numbers of people affected.

She explained that the nature of the problems mean that it is embarrassing for people to come forward and get help.

According to Ms Turton, such issues are not a natural consequence of ageing.

"Although it is fair to say that bladder and bowel problems are more common as people do age - the same as many other conditions and illnesses because as the body wears out things start to go wrong," she said.

During National Continence Awareness Week, events, conferences and open days will take place across the UK.
