Marathon runner looking to raise money for dementia care

A charity fundraiser who has already run 17 marathons has revealed she plans to run three more this year, a leading dementia care charity has announced.

Susie Hewer aims to raise over £1,500 for the Alzheimer's Research Trust (ART) by running the Brighton Marathon on April 18th, the London Marathon on April 25th and the Three Forts Marathon on May 3rd.

Ms Hewer has been fundraising for the ART since her mother died with dementia in 2005.

She holds a Guinness World Record for knitting the longest scarf while running a marathon and plans to break another on the streets of London by making the longest crotchet chain while running a marathon.

"People might think I'm crazy but having watched my dear mum gradually fade away with vascular dementia, I can't rest until I have raised more money for research into this dreadful condition," said Ms Hewer.

Rebecca Wood, chief executive of the ART, thanked Ms Hewer for her support, saying that the work of the group relies entirely on fundraisers like her.

There are around 820,000 people in the UK living with dementia, according to the organisation.
