Activities at Westvale House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Joanne Sherwood
Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.
I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Life at Westvale House Care Home
Gardening Club
On the 19th April, residents had lots of fun in the garden – it was our first Gardening Club! They had a lovely afternoon planting pansies and sunflower seeds. Our General Manager, Mathew, joined in too and planted a sunflower. We are going to have a competition with Mathew to see whose sunflower grows the tallest.
Easter Celebrations
Our seasonal celebrations included an Easter bonnet competition, chocolate bingo and an Easter raffle.
Mother's Day
Residents really enjoyed their Mother's Day celebrations. We had afternoon tea, played games and hosted singalong sessions. Residents also received a bunch of daffodils, which they loved.
Afternoon Outing
Residents went on an afternoon outing to The Maltings pub, where they enjoyed a drink and a singlong.
Active Cheshire
General Manager, Katie Bond, met with Joanne Taylor of Active Cheshire on 21st November 2017. They are interested in working together to keep residents active and get them involved in our local community. Small steps, big impact.
Barchester's 25th Anniversary
We had a fantastic day on Saturday 14th October celebrating Barchester's 25th Anniversary here at Westvale House. The singer, Laney, went down a treat and we were joined by special guest, Cllr Les Morgan, the newly-appointed Mayor of Warrington, and our local rugby club mascot, Wolfy from the Warrington Wolves; in addition to local PCSO, Chris O’Neill and his partner.
We raised £150, which will go towards the residents' fund – and a great time was had by all! Special thanks to Lucy Barnett, Activities Coordinator.
