Activities at Tixover House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

Our residents and visiting family members enjoyed a fantastic visit from 'Stonestreet Sounds' for a morning extravaganza filled with reminiscing, with photographs from our local area from yesteryear, accompanied by music from across the decades. Lots of memories shared, songs sung and toes tapping as well as a dance or two!

Everyone had a fabulous time and we look forward to welcoming back 'Stonestreet Sounds' in the near future.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

our residents and colleagues came together as we all enjoyed some delicious home-made cakes prepared by our talented Head Chef Tony, and several cups of tea and coffee in the beautiful ambience of our newly refurbished coffee lounge, and all in aid of a great cause - Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning!

The money raised at our Coffee Afternoon will help many living with cancer to live life as fully as they can, it will help fund the amazing Macmillan nurses, answer calls on the vital Support Line, give financial support, and so much more.

Making a Wish Come True

We recently had the pleasure of granting the wish of one of our Memory Lane residents.

Our resident used to be a farmer and his family wanted him to experience the sights, sounds and smells of a farm once again. We were more than happy to arrange a trip to Sacerwell Farm, where our resident and his wife enjoyed a day of fun and memories, all rounded off by a tractor ride - stimulating lots of reminiscing and laughter!

Many people with dementia find themselves routinely having things done ‘for’ them or ‘to’ them. When a person shares something about their past and another person shows interest or enjoyment, it is a wonderful opportunity for that person to feel that they are the one who is giving something to another human being, rather than always being the one who is receiving or listening.

Talking about the past can also bring up happy memories and good feelings, and this can be wonderful in itself, but particularly if a person is finding life difficult.

On our way back to Tixover house we even managed to catch up with our resident’s son (also a farmer), who was working in a local field - the smiles say it all!

Tixover Welcomes Local Police Officers

Tixover House warmly welcomed PC Rebecca Angel and PC Peter Icke into our home to meet our residents, colleagues and members of the local community.

As well thanking our local police personnel. Our residents were treated to a fascinating talk by PC Angel and PC Icke as they spoke about their time on the force and the day to day tasks and challenges they face within the community.

Our residents enjoyed being able to look at the equipment used by the modern day police force and took great delight in being able to have a look around the police car.

Residents Pass on Words of Wisdom to Returning School Children

Tixover House Care Home in Tixover have sent words of wisdom to the returning children at the Stamford Endowed School.

Residents of Tixover, which is run by Barchester Healthcare, have been sharing their stories with each other about their own time at school and wanted to reach out to the local children.

The resident’s advice included ‘take it slowly, don’t rush things and enjoy the days as they come.’

Another fellow resident said ‘try and do as your teacher says and be willing to listen to them’

Ive Alexander, General Manager of Tixover House Care Home said: “Residents have really enjoyed sharing their stories with each other; so many have incredible tales and words of advice they want to pass down. They’ve really enjoyed telling their tales with the young ones.”
