Activities at Sutton Valence Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Sutton Valence Care Home

Family Reunions

It may not be great weather,  but I think Yvonne's smile says it all as she visits her Dad Sam at Sutton Valence today.  Its such a privilege  to be able to facilitate a family reunion.

Annual Balloon release at Sutton Valence care home

Sutton Valence care home in Maidstone, continued their tradition of an annual balloon race.  Each resident released a balloon with a message inside to see how far their balloon will travel.  This fantastic event has taken place at Sutton Valence for many years and has become a tradition.  The day’s celebrations started with a delicious and nutritious buffet for the residents.   The staff and residents then went to our lovely gardens to release their balloons.

The weather was beautiful and there was excitement in the air as the the staff and residents took part in a countdown to release their balloons. The staff and residents watched their balloons until they travelled out of sight.  Then of course like every good event we finished with a good old fashioned singalong

Win's 100th Birthday celebrations.

Its not every day that you receive a birthday card from the Queen.  However this week, Win turned 100 years old and received the great accolade of a birthday card from her Royal Highness the Queens Elizabeth 11. The team here at Sutton Valence took the opportunity to throw a party for all our residents to honour Win on her special day.

Fountain Centerpiece

During the last few months the gardener Peter and residents have created a beautiful fountain centre piece in our central garden courtyard, the local scouts group led by Kaz Filmer personalised large pebbles, hand painted, resident planted seed that bloomed into stunning colourful smiles across the weeks.

The fountain was purchased and head gardener Peter created with the help of residents the colour scheme they wanted, even making lovely additions with a solar fountain, bird boxes handmade and painted for the walls and trees and a squirrel feeder.

The home manager, Robert Dura May, said his pride in the staff and residents is immense and a lovely garden party was held to celebrate the final scheme.

Garden Visits

Residents at Sutton Valence Care Home are being re-united with their loved ones in the beautifully landscaped gardens of the home overlooking the rural idle of the local cricket grounds. Although there is strict social distancing and rules to protect the residents and their loved ones, the residents have loved seeing their family and friends and catching up on the last 3 months that they have sadly been apart.

With the lack of haircuts and some extra facial hair growth, some of the residents didn’t recognise their loved ones at first, but quickly complimented their new looks and chatted away about what they have been doing. The home management have also secured a 3 meter marquee for when the weather is not so kind so that this valuable interaction and connection can go on regardless of the weather that this great country throws at us.

Thank you to Brooks marquees for their wonderful donation and support in keeping the community alive and well.

You are Welcome!

The Manager at Sutton Valence, Robert  Dura-May and our Deputy Nisha Phillip are showing the community with the new banner that we are open and welcoming new residents..
