Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Activities Co-ordinator

I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

A trip to Dogs Trust Evesham

A huge thank you to Callum and the team at Dogs Trust Evesham for allowing us to visit and donate a gift basket put together by our residents and families of Southerndown Care Home.
It was amazing to see just how well the facility is maintained, the care and attention the dogs receive and the positive impact the team are having in trying to find forever homes for the lovely dogs currently being cared for. If we could take them all we would!!
Its important to remember the hard work and care that goes into supporting animals looking for families and new homes. The team at Evesham are a great example of what a difference we can all make, whether that be supporting future pet's or even giving our residents the experience of being out and making a difference to others!
Well done to everyone involved and we look forward to coming back again at Christmas time to donate more gifts.

Southerndown Dog Show

To celebrate National Dog Day we held our very own Dog Show in the home with some friendly four legged friends! To see all the children and residents get involved and having fun was a great experience for us to share.

Animal therapy is one of the cornerstones of our life enrichment program and features regularly on our resident-led weekly activity planner.

Professional Breakfast

Last week we held our August Professional Breakfast here at Southerndown Care Home. We were joined by the local community workers throughout the morning and also invited along our very own Dr Sheila Parker who lives with us in the home. It was lovely to introduce her to everyone who visited and see so many familiar faces.

Dementia Community Cafe

We had a wonderful morning hosting our monthly Dementia Community Café here at Southerndown Care Home.

Each monthly we are joined by families from the local community, who seek support and guidance for loved ones living with Dementia. This month we hosted a game of Bingo with a twist, where residents had to perform exercises each time a number was called out.

Not only was this a fun twist on a well known game, but it also kept us moving and thinking which is always good for body. Of course it wouldn't be an event without the amazing catering our kitchen team put on. Delicious treats for everyone after!

India Independence Day

On Thursday 15th August we celebrated Indian Independence Day which is a National Holiday celebrated in India every year.

To mark the occasion our staff from India provided traditional entertainment and food from the amazing country and spent the afternoon performing dances and fashion shows for our residents.

Thank you to everyone who joined in the celebrations! It was a wonderful afternoon!
