Activities at Sherwood Court Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Sherwood Courts Foraging

Here at Sherwood Court, resident Peter, made the most of the dry afternoon spending some time in our garden. Peter noticed the apple tree was blooming and got himself a tub and began picking red and green apples, he was in his element and reminded him of his allotment days.

Peter gave our chef Carol his collection and is very much looking forward to tomorrows apple pie. Delicious.

Pats Birthday Bash!

Pats Birthday Bash!

Here at Sherwood Court, resident Pat enjoyed a true birthday party. Pats family had provided an Elvis tribute for all our residents to enjoy alongside the birthday lady herself!

Residents, family members and staff thoroughly enjoyed the experience alongside Pat and her family, and we are so lucky to have family members like hers to have all our residents engaged in a wonderful afternoon.

Our kitchen staff made and supplied a delicious birthday cake, candles were lit, and Elvis had us all singing happy birthday, followed by divulging on the tasty cake!

The Music Man

The Music Man

Here at Sherwood Court, residents, family members and staff had a wonderful afternoon, enjoying Al Harts 'Music in Minds' performance. Al comes to visit us once a month and always blows the roof off the building, using different instrument's, amazing music and some good humour, which always has everyone laughing and over all a fully entertaining time.

Here is activities coordinator, Hayley, having a ball with resident Pat, who is always up for a boogie.

Community Coffee Morning

Community Coffee Morning

Here at Sherwood Court, residents have been treated and indulged in a lovely coffee morning, supplied by the Spar Shop from James Hall.

We hold great connections with the group and always enjoy our visitors coming to share their time with our residents and reminisce on favourite past times.

We do love a community morning.

Knowing Me, Knowing You!

Knowing Me, Knowing You!

Here at Sherwood Court, our home was visited by Gabby, who is a ABBA tribute act from Mini Concerts.

Residents, family members and staff, enjoyed an hour performance, singing and dancing away with each other, family members also engaged with other residents encouraging them to get up and dance as well as wheel chair dancing.

Music really does bring joy and happiness to our home and we are very much looking to our next entertainer.

80th Anniversary of the D Day Landings

80th Anniversary of the D Day Landings

Here at Sherwood Court, residents from both our Memory Lane unit and Nursing unit embarked on a real life D Day tour, in Fleetwood. Activities Coordinators, Hayley and Morag, planned a trip to Fleetwood Memorial park, where the community held a D Day event. We got there just in time for the service held by the Mayor, which was followed by the Last Post tribute. We then went around all the stalls where there was replicas of war vehicles, weapon systems and even a spit fire, safe to say our residents thoroughly enjoyed their day out, even the picnic on the mini bus.

Celebrating 50 years of ABBA

Celebrating 50 years of ABBA

Here at Sherwood Court, we have kick started our week off by having Mini Concerts performer, Gabby, come and put on a ABBA tribute performance for us. It has been 50 years since ABBA won the Eurovision contest back in 1974, and what a performance Gabby put on for us. We went through all of ABBA’s greatest hits including Waterloo, Dancing Queen, MAMMA MIA and many more, our resident’s absolutely loved it. Kathleen from our nursing unit and Liz from our memory lane unit, sat next to each other, their hands where in the air the whole time, bellowing out the words to all the songs Gabby sang.

Mini Concerts always provide the best entertainment for our residents.

Double Trouble

Double Trouble

Here at Sherwood Court today, we have a new resident residing with us, Pat. Pat is very much famous in our home already due to her twin sister Pam also residing with us... How cute do they look together?

We are very much looking forward to seeing their special bond and also being able to apart of it with them.

Welcome to Sherwood Court, Pat.

Music Man

Music Man

Here at Sherwood Court, residents enjoyed afternoon entertainment by the fantastic Al Hart. Al is a keen musician and always brings different instruments and really engages with our resident’s – they love him. During Al’s session here, after entertaining the majority of our resident’s, he took it upon himself to go around rooms to find residents, he then proceeded to do some one to one time with those who didn’t want to come and join in. Resident Sid, use to be a keen guitarist and singer and played a lot of gigs around the North West, he thoroughly enjoyed Al’s room visit and had a good chat about guitars and gigs.

May Day Maypole

May Day Maypole

Here at Sherwood Court, residents, family members and staff have got together and had a right laugh trying to act out the Maypole dance we had a beautifully decorated Maypole, handmade garlands and pretty ribbons around! Sherwood Lodge our sister home had  school children from Sherwood Primary School, to show off their skills and our residents watched with fond memories, however, the staff here wasn’t half as good as them! One of our resident’s Peter handed chocolate treats out to the school children to say thank you for their entertainment.

Great day had by all.

Happy Birthday Elizabeth

Happy Birthday Elizabeth

Here at Sherwood Court today, resident Liz has been enjoying her birthday celebrations. Liz was totally shocked at receiving a gift and card from all the staff here at Sherwood Court. This afternoon Liz was enjoying the garden with some rare sunshine and friends, when Hostess Vik came and surprised Liz with a beautiful birthday cake, freshly made and decorated by our fantastic kitchen staff Liz was utterly speechless and couldn’t believe how much the staff put effort in to Liz enjoying her day.

Gardening Club

Gardening Club

Here at Sherwood Court, we have some new keen members to our gardening club! Hosted by Hayley, resident, Roland, from our Nursing Unit and Elizabeth have took up their tools and got down and dirty, both Roland and Elizabeth shared fond memories of keeping their gardens in good order, and no matter the weather, would always be outside potting new flowers, pulling up weeds or just sat admiring their hard efforts of their beautiful gardens.

Roland is a keen vegetable and fruits grower, he taught the club the importance of soil turning, and how the plants benefit from doing so. Roland had his own allotment close to his home where he would spend hours pottering about, pulling weeds and admiring his patch.

Gardening connects us with nature, and it is found that spending time in green spaces helps people destress and relax. This is important for our residents as it can help overcome feelings of loneliness, isolation and help us come together to embrace the natural beauty that Sherwood Court’s garden has to offer.

Evening Treat

Evening Treat

Here at Sherwood Court, after a busy day with community coffee morning held by The Spar Shop, an afternoon of Elvis being on the building giving our residents an outstanding performance, Senior Care assistant April and Care assistant Tamara finished their shifts but still made time to make a lovely gesture. The evening was bright and was still warm, the carers took Bill and Ronnie over to the local pub, The Sherwood, and treated the gents to a tipple of choice, a pint of Ale for Ronnie and a pint of Coke for Bill.

It is little gestures like this that make the most impact and a great end to a great day!

Well done to you both.

Eggcellent Day

Eggcellent Day

Here at Sherwood Court, we held our annual Easter Raffle, we had plenty of donations from our residents, family and friends, my word what a display was set for our event. This event is in aid of raising money to go into our residents fund, to be able to plan future activities and outings of their choice. In total, we raised a whopping £451, absolutely amazing. The Easter Bunny was a local lady called Sammy Vee, who kindly supported our event for free due it being an amazing cause. We cannot express enough how days like this really brings our home together and unite as one.
